William Clark

Post by Morag » Wed Dec 08, 2010 11:30 am

I am trying to find the death of a William Clark .
Memento-mori website has a photograph of a website from Camelon , stating

William Clark
Who died 22nd August 1855
Aged 38 years Interred in
Erskine Churchyard Falkirk

His wife Margaret Taylor died in 1892 aged 79 and was buried in Camelon with 4 of their children. They married in 1840 in Falkirk.
In 1841 , they were living in Bonnybridge , and in 1851 in Falkirk.
In 1851 census , he is born in Denny

There is no corresponding death on Scotland's People for William - anywhere in Scotland , although I doubt very much that he left the Falkirk area.
Could it be that in 1855 , some people still weren't registering deaths ?
It is his parents that I really would like to know about.
The Clark family had various spellings - Clark , Clarke , Clerk , Clerke are the ones I have found but am open to suggestions.

Any help would be most welcome

I think I have now answered my own question here!
I think that the stone in Camelon was erected several years after the death of William, so suspect that the family were unsure about his exact date of death - which was possibly pre 1855. They got the exact date of death of their mother wrong which makes me think this is the case.
Looks like I will never find out who the parents of William were.
