Windows 7
Hi All
I have recently bought a laptop and the operating system is Windows 7.
I have tried to load my LDS 1881 census discs and can't seem to get them to work.
I still have my PC(operating on Windows XP) so I can still use that.
Anyone else had the same problem? If so ....................any help?
Regards
Jean

Re: Windows 7
I sympathise Jean - I'm in exactly the same boat and I don't think there's a solution - none that I've found anyway.
It's so frustrating after going through the same palaver a few years ago when the laptop I had then had Vista!

I never did get the LDS 1881 Census CDs to work on my Windows Vista laptop.

Re: Windows 7
Has anyone tried seeking advice from Salt Lake City?
Since the CDs are still on sale this can't be an unusual question.

Re: Windows 7
This problem is probably becuse your new machine is running the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (this allows the machine to access more memory) . Unfortunately the LDS discs are incompatible with 64 bit software and will not run without a work around.
If you have the premium version of Windows 7 you should have access to "XP mode" which is basically a cut down version of a Windows XP machine running in a a separate window and you then install the LDS database through this.
If you have the Home version of Windows 7 you can still run the LDS disks but the workaround needs a little more work.
Step 1 get hold of Virtual PC software (there are some free varieties about)
Step 2. get hold of an older version of windows XP or older
Step 3 install this old windows version in your virtual machine
Step 4 install the LDS disks in the virtual machine

Re: Windows 7
It is actually very simple and is a relatively neat work around if your machine has the capacity for it.

Re: Windows 7
Here's a comprehensive answer to the question (just type windows 7 in the box) from LDS. Pretty much as Falkyrn advised.
