hi everyone, this is my first post here, as you can probably tell, i am looking for more information on thomas french who married agnes dunwoody, scotland. They emigrated to canada around 1836-37. They had children by the names of:
william b. 1844 d. 1912
james b. 1824 or 26
elizabeth b. 1829 or 30
jane b. 1832/33 d. 1914
david b. 1836 d. 1915
thomas b . 1838
agnes b. 1841 d. 1920
john d. b. 1846 d. 1884
janet b. 1826
agnes dinwoodie ( various spellings ) was born on april 16 1803 and her parents were james and elspeth. does anyone have anyone any info on their marriage or as to which thomas french i am looking for. i have searched thru ' scotlandspeople ' and have not found record of marriage so therefore do not know which thomas french married agnes. i believe he was born sometime around 1804 give or take a year. please any info would be helpful, thank you..........
here is an update to my earlier posts:
The closest match to the couple you mention are
Agnes Dinwoodie Daughter of James Dinwoodie and Elspeth Charters b 16 Apr 1803 Johnstone, Dumfriesshire
Thomas French Son of Simeon French and Ann Corrie b 1 Jun 1808 Wamphray, Dumfriesshire
Wamphray and Johnstone are neighbouring parishes which makes sense.
The marriage records for Johnstone Parish did not survive between 1740 and 1852 which is why their marriage would not show up on scotlandspeople
They had four children recorded here:
James 30 Dec 1825 Johnstone
Janet 10 Feb 1828 Lochmaben
Elizabeth 28 Mar 1830 Lochmaben
Jean 2 Dec 1832 Lochmaben
Now the question i have is would anyone have any information on Thomas and Agnes or on Thomas' father Simeon? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: thomas french/agnes dinwoodie
Hi I don't suppose any of this will be of any help ,but Thomas and Agnes appears to have emigrated to canada 1837,along with james, elizabeth, jane, and david also a jean born 1832. Source Bibliography - Donald Whyte. A Dictionary of scottishEmigrants to Canada before confederation. Vol 3.Toronto. The Ontario Genealogical Soc.2002.
Also I found on the 1851 census Ontario;Richmond Lennox County.
Agnes French 48 Scotland 1804 Farmer presbyterian
James " 27
Elizabeth " 22
John " 18
David " 15
Thomas " 14
Agnes " 10
John D " 05
Nothing on Simeon unless it was perhaps Simon.
Hope there was something in this, perhaps you already had the Info. Anyhow good luck Alex
