William Allison .................. GGG Grandfather
I am stuggling to find his birth and death cert the reason is because on the marriag cert i have of him it doesnt say what age he is or who his parents were. he was married to margaret docherty other spelling may be Dougherty in 1853 in Galsgow and he is in Hutchesontown in the 1871 census aged 35, +/- 1year with his birth, with his son walter 17(the guy on my other posts) daughter jane 14 and son james 11 and he is also living with his mother isabella aged 62 so thats all i have on him. i only know his mums name and his wife died in 1869.

Re: William Allison .................. GGG Grandfather
Hi Gary,
You know from the death certificate of his wife that he was still living in 1869; and you also have him in the 1871 census. He is shown as living on son Walter's 1874 marriage certificate. From son Walter's 1916 death certificate you are told he was dead by then. Unfortunately that still leaves you a large range of years for his death: 1874 to 1916.
Can you find him on any censuses from 1881 to 1901? Have you found marriage or death certificates for his other children to try and narrow down the range of years that you need to be looking in to find William's death certificate?
All the best,
AndrewP

Re: William Allison .................. GGG Grandfather
Good advice from Andrew and you will have to find his death entry for confirmation of his parents. At the moment I'm not finding anything obvious for William after 1871. There is a death registered at SP in 1876 of a William Allison at Hutchesontown of the right age.
Meanwhile if you search at http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl for William Allison and tick the 'Phonetic search on surname box' you will find him with his mother and siblings where he was born.
From there you can seach at http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/ ... search.asp for his birth - enter his name with a mother Isabella and there is an obvious birth.
Now you have a father's name and mother's maiden name you can confirm this is the same family you found in 1851 by putting both parents names in the Father and Mother boxes with nothing in the First Name and Last Name boxes. This will give all the registered children to that couple and you'll see that this is them.
If you search FREECEN again for the 1841 you will find Isabella with her husband and first daughter.
Hope you can follow all that.
Regards,
Annette

i have tryed on freeCHEN but i cant find him there about 350 william allisons hahaha. i think it all lies with the death cert from 1876, then i can find stuff out. i have managed to find a birth cert for a william allison born in 1837 parents are waltyer allison and isabella miller and its there second child. ( i was looking at other births on the same page and someone had givin birth to there 14th child, they were really busy back then hahaha). but i still think the death cert could lead us to something

Ok............ search again at FREECEN for 1851.
Isabella Alison (only 1 l ) born 1809. There are only 2 and one of them has a William of the right age living with her.
You will find her again in 1841 with her husband and daughter Jean - again only 1 l in the surname and this time she is Isobella.
Now search at http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/ ... search.asp for the birth of William Allison 1835 and put just Isabella in the mother's box. There is an obvious one.
William also named one of his daughter's after his mother.
The final thing that convinces me this is the right lady is that when you add her maiden name to the Isabella Allison who died at Hutchesontown in 1879 you get 1 hit.
Hopefully you can follow it this time.
If not I'll just tell you what it is!!!!!

Annette

Re: William Allison .................. GGG Grandfather
right i have finally found a birth cert of a walter alison and his mother is isabella gilmour and walter alison so in am no on the right track all i need is his death cert which would have to be before 1879 and i now only have 7 credits so i need to be pretty accurate
and when i look for children born by isabella gilmour and walter alison 6 people show from 1827-1854 i dont no when they were married but she was born round about 1809 so i would of said perhaps late 20's early 30's

Hi Gary
You can find mention of the marriage on the www.familysearch.org web site. Once you have the date, then you should be able to find the correct one on SP, if you are wanting to download the OPR entry.
Best wishes
