John Darroch Dallas Fulton
Hi , I am lookig for info on my great grandfather John Darroch Dallas Fulton. He married Annie McMenemy and had about 15 children. The children of John and Annie are: David, Dinah, Frances, Frank, Minnie, Marion, Margaret, Annie, Mary, Georgina, John, Neil, Catherine, Benjamin. There may also have beeen a George. I believe they were all born in Scotland. I can't seem to find them on any census.
Also, I am really interested in is finding out about their son John Mowat Fulton(my grandfather). I heard my father say a long time ago that my grandfather could never go back to Scotland. I asked my father about it before he died and he denied saying it. When I first started my genealogy research my father told me all kinds of different names for my grandfather's middle name (not rembering that my grandmother told me years ago that my grandfather's middle name was Mowat). Knowing my father I know that this was deliberate. My grandfather(John Mowat Fulton) used his brother's name on my fahter's birth certificate, which was corrected 6 years after my father's birth. John Mowat also used his brother Ben's name on his Social Securtiy application. The only document i have foud where John Mowat used his own name was on his marriage certificate to my grandmother. I would like to know why he could never return to Scotland but have no idea how to find out. I can only think of 2 reasons why he couldn't go home. one is because he is running from the military(maybe he got drafted and didn't want to serve so he ran), the other is that maybe he was in trouble with the law. Does anyone know where I can find out?
Nicole

Hello Nicole and welcome to Talking Scot!
You don't give any dates to help us narrow down the search for these people, but this looks like the right names in the 1901 census:
1901
96 Mclellan St, Govan, Lanarkshire
John Fulton, 30, Head, born Patrick, Lanarkshire (Partick?), Stoker (in Dredger)
Annie Fulton, 30, Wife, born Tignabrwick, Argyleshire
Marion Fulton, 11, Daur, born Paisley, Renfrewshire, scholar
Margaret Fulton, 10, Daur, born Paisley, Renfrewshire, scholar
Annie Fulton, 8, Daur, born Glasgow, Lanarkshire, scholar

Georgina Fulton, 4, Daur, born Glasgow, Lanarkshire
John Fulton, 2, Son, born Govan, Lanarkshire

Is that about the correct date of birth for your grandfather John?
All the best,
Sarah
Snap, Carol!

Hi Nicole and Sarah,
There is also this marriage on SP:
1920 FULTON JOHN MOWAT MCMANUS HELEN PLANTATION GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/20
I notice on Nicole's tree on Ancestry that she has him married to Lillian Gannon I think it was in the USA.
Nicole, did you know about this marriage to Helen McManus?

Sarah,
There's no date of marriage given in the tree for Lillian Gannon and John Mowat Fulton.
We'll have to wait until we hear from Nicole again.

Re: John Darroch Dallas Fulton
Hi all,
There are at least two children who look to be born to these people, but I won't list them because of the cut off dates. If you search SP just with the last name and the dates 1920 to 1930 in Govan, Lanarkshire they will come up. One has both Mowat and McManus as middle names.
Sarah, I couldn't get the death you found to come up. Where did she die?

Got it. Don't know what was amiss the first time. Her sister was the informant.
I just noticed that there is a second identical post under Scottish People for Nicole's introductory post. Maybe you or someone else can correct that since all the follow up is here under Ireland?

Re: John Darroch Dallas Fulton
Thanks for the heads-up, Carol. I'm wondering why this topic is in Ireland anyway... makes more sense in the other forum. Hold on, while I try to move this
Cheers,
Sarah
