Hi
I've been researching my McIlduff ancestors for over 10 years and I've come across various spellings. My McIlduffs orginate from Armagh in Northern Ireland, moving over to Glasgow around 1891. My gg grandmother was Margaret McIlduff and she was widowed when she came over to Glasgow with her 4 grown up children :
James married Margaret Lappin - children Mary, Margaret, Susan, Josephine, Elizabeth, Agnes & James
Mary married Denis Carr - children John, Margaret, Mary,Susan, Francis & James
Bernard married MAry Jane Muldoon - children Bernard, John, Margaret, Francis, Mary, James, Joseph, Frances & Annie
John married Margaret McIntosh - children Susan, Mary & Robert (my grandfather)
The families all lived around the same area - Nuneaton Street, Boden Street and Mordaunt Street.
I'd be interested if anyone else has any connection to the McIlduff family, its a pretty unusual name and I pretty sure that all the McIlduffs in Scotland around this time are 'mine'

Greetings Floss.
Welcome to TalkingScot.
I've just had a quick look at our records and it appears that you have the honour of being the first to raise that name here. Though there is one McDuff posting.

I see you have also registered your interest on RootsChat and had a limited response. Here is the link for new comers wanting to search the name.

Hello Floss,
I did a search for m*lduff in Scotland and wonder whether you are also related to the Mcelduff family who were in Old Monkland, Lanark in 1871. The parents, Thomas and Mary Ann, were born in Ireland and the children (eldest born 1865) were born in Coatbridge, Lanark.
Would Thomas and Margaret Kilduff in St Andrew, Angus also be yours? Just drop the [m]...
In 1881 I only see a James, born 1851 in Ireland, who is a boarder in Old Monkland and a John, born 1861 in Ireland, a lodger in Partick.
Thomas and Mary Ann & family from the last census have contracted the name to McDuff
I'm no relation, just got intrigued by the name
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah
Many thanks for the reply
Thomas and Mary Ann McElduff don't belong to my family as far as I know but I do have info on them and their children and sometimes their name is spelt McIlduff, I tend to gather info as I go along even if I cant see a connection at the time. To be honest never thought to look at Kilduff
but shall have a look now and see what I can find.

Re: McIlduff - Glasgow
No reason why you should have thought of Kilduff out of the blue
It just jumped out at me when I did a search for *duff born in Ireland, since I found that I had missed the John in 1861 because his name was in the index as Mc Illduff with a space between the Mc and the rest, so it didn't come up in the m*lduff search.
Since it is not unusual to see a family drop the "Mc" from their name, I thought it was worth a look.
All the best,
Sarah
