INTERNET EXPLORER 9

Post by Genetrix » Wed May 04, 2011 3:13 pm

i've just downloaded Internet Explorer 9 and its done something to the interaction between my browser and my printer. I was printing a page from the Basic Search Options page in Scotland's People and it used to just show the 5 districts in the box within a particular county. Now its printing all the districts (waste of ink). I wrote to Scotland's People thinking they'd changed something but they say its to do with my browser and printer connection and they can't help. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can fix this please?
I also notice in the Tools section of I E 9 there's no "Work Offline" entry either. You even have to use Tools to change the Zoom setting whereas it was at the bottom right of the screen before and much handier. Why do they have to keep changing things? I wish I'd stayed with I E 8.

Hi Tricia

I'd be tempted as a quick solution to use system restore to go back to before you installed IE9

Best wishes

Hi Tricia,

I have been using IE9 for the last few weeks and like it. I still have the zoom control in the bottom right. It sounds like your Status Bar may be switched off.

To switch it on, go to View --> Toolbars --> click on Status Bar.

All the best,

Hello Tricia,

I always have my printer software set so that it shows a preview before printing. That way I don’t get any expensive surprises spewing out.

I’m not sure what you mean by Basic Search Options page. Do you mean the Census search page and that it prints out the fifty or sixty districts in the county instead of just the half dozen or whatever that you can see in the box onscreen. I’m not sure why you would want to print a search page but maybe you could just use the snipping tool thingy to capture the bit you want and print the results.

There are better browsers than IE, such as Firefox, Chrome and Safari. But if you are going to continue to use IE it’s probably best to try to adapt to the latest version.

Most modern browsers are designed to take up a minimum of screen space. This can be a bit of a shock to many who have become used to having their screen real estate cluttered up by up to a half dozen rows of assorted toolbars.

However if you find you can’t stand it any longer you can uninstall IE9 and automatically revert back to IE8 as described here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/wind ... explorer-9

Hope that’s useful,
Alan

I don’t have win7 or IE9. There’s a bit here about printing in IE9. Have you tried selecting just part of the page before clicking the print button? http://www.brighthub.com/hubfolio/john- ... 14384.aspx
A bit of discussion here about toolbars and printing http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showth ... ges-in-IE9

Thanks folks for all your help. I didn't even have a Menu bar showing so couldn't turn on the status bar from there. However, I finally remembered F1 and found out how to get the menu bar turned back on. Feeling much more comfortable now that I can find things again. Also have the zoom back where I want it. Thanks Andrew.

Alan, on the SP Basic Search Page there's a little box at the bottom showing the County and another box below that showing the various Districts. When I get a match I search for the district and highlight that then print off the page (if I can't afford to pay for the actual image). Print preview shows exactly what I want, i.e. just the districts that fit in the box. However, when I print it now (since upgrading to IE9), I get the whole list of districts beyond those shown in the box. I don't know why that's happening and I thought there might be a way to fix it. However, its not that important and I can live with it. I always buy the image for anyone in my direct line (and many who are not), however, I'm now getting to 2nd and third cousins so many times removed, there's no way I can afford to buy all their images but still want a record of their details and the Basic Search Options page is good enough for that.

Again, thanks for all your help.
