Rose and Bridget devine

Post by garydevine1995 » Sat May 07, 2011 10:50 pm

i am having trouble looking for rose and bridget devine. in 1851 they are in hamilton and in 1861 they have dissappeared from hamilton. their parents are james devine/divine and rose/a muldoon/mildownie but if there is a death cert out there then their mothers name might not be on it or it could be mary mullen/. rose could also be known as rose ann but i am unsure. rose was born round about 1847 and birdget 1845 +/- 3 years for both of them in ireland. their mother died in 1856 and their father in 1891 in hamilton. i dont no if they have been married either. in 1861 rose shoudl be 14 and bridget 17 +/- 2 years.

Hi Gary,

There is a Rosan Devine age 14, a servant, in the house of the Gamekeeper at Cardross, Dumbartonshire in 1861. Says she was born at Hamilton though.

Regards,
Annette

Hi Gary and Annette,
This sounded familiar, so I did a search and, sure enough we had the same discussion about these girls about exactly a month ago: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16003

I think Gary's mind is distracted by his exams  AS WELL IT SHOULD BE :-

Annette, I hope we don't get in trouble with Gary's teachers for taking his mind off his studies

lol Sarah i know we did speak about these two girls but i thought it would be best to start a different post only involving these two as i have now found the 1861 census for the devines in hamilton but it was just the bridget and rose/a but i cant find the rosan devine in the 1861 census. i got a 1861 census for a rose devine at 14 in glasgow but it was to a different family and that was all and so was the bridget she was to edward and mary devine. one of their sisters, elizabeth, went to avondale, strahaven so i thought maybe they could have went with her or one of them could. but i thought it just would of been easier focusing on these two on another post just involving these two, sorry.

but these two are the only ones left to figure out and i am literally dieing to find them and i could really really use some help from you guys lol :)

Hi Sarah and Annette,

Guess what ................... I GOT THEM!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

hahaha i was so excited within ten minutes i found their marriage and death certs :P

I went with my instinct and thought bridget and rose went ot avondale with elizabeth but it turns out on bridget did. bridget married patrick muligan in 1862 in avondale and she died there too in 1903.

rose married daniel sheridan in 1865 in hamilton (and i swear i looked before and she wasnt there lol) and she suprisingly died in leith, edinburgh. she was widowed and she is down as rose ann but i cant make out what she died of. the husbands name isnt on it and a Mr Mason signed it giving no detail in if he is related to the family or even a friend, there are 2 daniel sheridans that died, on in blackfriars, glasgow 1894 aged 54 and one in old or west kilpatrick, dumbarton aged 62 and on her marriage cert her husband is about 12 years older than her so i think it could be the dunbarton one but i ran out of credits so i cant look.

Kind regards,

Gary Devine.

=D> Great news, Gary!! Now I can stop trying to trace the Bridget Devine who came to America in 1860 and married in Massachusetts... whew! She was hard to track down, but now I can leave her until one of her relatives posts on Talking Scot!

I wonder where Bridget was in 1861? Maybe she went back to Ireland for a visit...

Congratulations on tracking them down! Before you know it, you'll be helping other people on the forum find their relatives!

All the best,
Sarah
