Has anyone here installed, or have experience of using this ? I just stumbled on it by chance. My favourite genealogy software is Legacy but Mac doesnt support it and i miss it !. I did a compatibility check and CrossOver does.
I cant get to the Apple Store now until Tuesday to ask them about it so thought i would ask your thoughts on here first.
Thank you
Tracey

Re: CrossOver Mac
Hello Tracey,
Is this the compatibility page you’ve been to? You can type in the program name and get a rating of how different Windows applications perform, on Mac or Linux, using Crossover. Check out the tabs on those results pages as well. http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/
Legacy 7 only gets a Bronze Medal.
“The Bronze is awarded to applications that install and run, and that can accomplish some portion of their fundamental mission. This means that the consensus of our users is that Bronze applications generally have enough bugs that we recommend that our customers use them with caution. Save early/save often, and don't be surprised if there are some bumps along the way.”
However Legacy 6 gets a Gold Medal.
“The Gold is awarded to applications that install and run as you would expect them to in Microsoft Windows. This means that the consensus of our users is that you can expect to use these applications on an everyday basis with good results, and only minor bugs”
That would seem to rule out the latest version of Legacy but for most people it probably really isn’t any better than the previous version.
It seems it works better using CrossTie for the installation, which you’ll see mentioned there. Crossover Mac apparently does cost something. I haven’t read all the fine detail but there are some videos there that should help. If you need to chase up your own copy of Legacy 6 you can get it here. http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/helpDow ... rsion6.asp
The Mac Store probably wouldn't have the foggiest.
Hope that’s useful,
Alan

Re: CrossOver Mac
This fellow tried Legacy on Crossover Mac a couple of years ago and the main program was producing errors although he doesn’t say what they were. http://www.technofileonline.com/texts/tec081609.html
I just noticed the price they are charging for the product. There’s a free trial available. http://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover/

Re: CrossOver Mac
Here’s some more Tracey,
The fellow who wrote “Legacy & the Mac’ in this pdf document couldn’t get Legacy to work with Crossover. Eventually he opted for Parallels costing $80 and a copy of windows XP costing presumably considerably more, just to get his preferred genealogy program to work.

Re: CrossOver Mac
Thank you Alan for that.
I did ask in the Apple Store today and the techie guys knew about it. Parallels and Windows for Mac has been suggested by Apple before but for me almost defeats the reason for owning a Mac and for what that costs i could buy myself a cheap Windows laptop. It doesnt look like the free version of Legacy would work but i may just try the *trial* and see how it goes, and if all goes well it isnt that expensive to purchase.
Once again many thanks for the information.
