looking for marriage.
trying to find a marriage for a thomas alexander boothby. he was born3rd sept 1899 at 2 braidfauld street tollcross glasgow. dont know if its possible as i dont know if he got married or who to. thanks.

Thomas Boothby seems to have been employed as a Gym Steward on different ships sailing from between Glasgow and New York. He was 5'6" tall and 150 lbs… or 5'8" and 161, or something like that (the figures vary from record to record). The earliest list I see was from 1930 and the last from 1939. His marital status is not given.
There are a number of possible marriages in England, but no way to know if they are the correct person. There is, however, a death that looks like it could be him, especially since it is the correct birth date:

Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1977
Age at Death 77
Registration district: Thanet
Inferred County: Kent
Volume: 16
Page: 1804
Perhaps if you found an obituary it would tell you if he was married or not.

The only marriage showing on Scotland's people for a Thomas Boothby is in 1914 - a little on the young side for your Thomas.
The only death again doesn't match your chap age-wise, died in the 1960's aged late 80's.
Finding a death cert should show any marriages too.
Perhaps he didn't stay in Scotland or has been indexed under a different spelling?
Knowing a Mother's maiden name can sometimes help in death searches.

hi sarah, thankyou so much for your help and for takeing the time to do it. i know thomas alexander boothby's mother was a margaret donaldson beattie b 5th nov 1866. can you remember who was the witness on thomas death cert. again i cant thank you enough for your help sarah. thanks

I just got the death information from an online index, so don't know anything more than what I have posted. To get more information, you'll have to purchase the certificate. English certificates are not cheap (£9.25), but there is no other way to obtain them, unfortunately. There is no online service like ScotlandsPeople. Also, be aware that the English certificates will not give you as much information as do the Scottish ones and give no information on other family members. With luck, the informant's name and address will tell you something.

Given that the date of birth shown on the 1977 English death record is an exact match, the chances that this is not the same person are extremely small, to the point of being worth the £9.25 to buy the certificate; but note SarahND's warning about the paucity of the info on an English death record compared with a Scottish one.
