John Henry/Hendry/Hendrie and another Williamson

Post by melva'sgirl » Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:25 am

I just posted this a short time ago to Ancestry and I wanted to share it here.
Re; John Henry/Hendry/Hendrie b.? married Elisabeth Anderson Alexander. Two dates.
30 Oct 1852 in Baldernock, Sterlingshire. Banns? And then, 31 Oct 1852 in kirkintillock, Dunbartonshire. I think this is the actual marriage.
Children:
Elizabeth Anderson Alexander Hendrie b. 26 Mar 1853, Chr 8 May 1853 in Kirkintillock
Agnes Hendrie b. 29 Oct 1856 in Kirkintillock
John Hendrie b. 21 Dec 1858 in Kirkintillock (wife Mary Williamson)
Jane Hendrie b. 29 Oct 1860 in Kirkintillock
Anne Hendry b. 25 Nov 1862 in Govan, Lanarkshire (husband Robert Sorbie, Kids; Elizabeth, Grace, Annie)
Matthew Hendry b. 16 Oct 1864 in Govan
Mary Henry b. 8 Feb 1866 in Barony, Lanarkshire
James Henry b. 28 July 1868 in Barony
William Henry b. 1 Jan 1870 in Barony
Robert Henry b. 4 Apr 1871 in Bridgeton, Lanarkshire
William Alexander Henry b. 16 Mar 1874 in Bridgeton

John Henry 1858 married Mary Williamson b. 17 Mar 1858 in Lanarkshire, supposed to be the daughter of Benjamin Williamson and Unknown wife. John and Mary married where?
They emigrated to Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio sometime around 1880.
Known Children:
John Alexander Henry b. abt 1882, married Marie J. Newell (kids; Arthur Richard m Eileen Fought and Doris m Carl Martin in Cuyahoga, Ohio)
William Henry b. abt 1885 married Flora Wein in Cuyahoga, Ohio.
Ruth E. Henry married George Herbert Tipping, (kids; Harold, Ruth, Lois)
Charles J. Henry b. abt 1915???
My interest is in Mary Williamson and her father Benjamin. I thought Mary to be the sister of Robert Williamson 1848, who was the son of a Benjamin also.
Regards, Sandy

Hi Melva's girl,

Many of the answers you are seeking are available at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk on a pay per view basis. There should be a marriage certificate to download for the 1858 marriage you are seeking more information about. For any of the events from 1855 onwards (start of statutory registration in Scotland), there should be a birth, marriage or death certificate. For the pre-1855 events, there may be entries in the OPRs (Old Parochial Registers), however these were not mandatory.

All the best,

AndrewP

Embarrassing. I posted this on Ancestry in answer to an old query by someone in my area who I had been trying to reach to no avail. Later I checked another message board and lo and behold, the same person I was trying to get the information to had posted it to Genforum. I actually had missed two of the children of John Henry and Elisabeth Anderson Alexander. They are Helen Henry b. 1854 in Kirkintillock and Archibald Henry b. abt 1876 in Glasgow. He says all children shown on 1881 census with the exception of Matthew, William and William Alexander and speculates they died young. Birthdate for John Henry, 19 Aug 1830 in Kirkintillock and for Elisabeth Anderson Alexander, b. abt 1833 in Glasgow.
This person's original query had been for Benjamin Williamson, Father of Mary Williamson Henry and I'm still interested in any information on Benjamin. Apologies and Thanks.

Thank-you Andrew.
I had actually been hoping to exchange some information with another gentleman but was too late. Both of our families have an illusive Benjamin Williamson. But I also thought the information could help someone else too so I posted it here. Thanks again.
