James Richardson b1804 d1851

Post by johnhills » Sun Dec 25, 2011 8:12 pm

Trying to trace James Richardson he married a Sophia Paxton jun 7 1841,unable to find out where or why he died and left Sophia and her 2 daughters to fend for them-selfs.Sophia eventually was transported to Tasmania in early 1850's with the 2 girls.I may be wrong on James's death year.

Hi John
Doing a death search for James Richardson in statutory records brings up 13 but none in Fife so he might have moved away from there.
There are 7 in OPR's. It might take a bit of effort (credit) to either confirm or eliminate those entries.
The searches were done with no county selected as Fife draws a blank.

Thanks Stew .I've looked on scotlandspeople myself and run out of credits myself.I know his father and mother .
Father was Rev John Richardson b 1766-1837
Mother was Grace Pratt (Prate) b ? - 1829
For some reason no one looked after Sophia and the children after she was widowed. One of those family secrets I guess.

Have you located any of them in 1851 on the census?
Or checked where and when the daughters were born.
You seem to have a fairly tight time to look at.

Looking at the minister's daughters on census records gives the impression the family were fairly well off. Have you looked at the Rev John Richardson's will at SP to see if James is mentioned.

What proof do you have that the Sophia who was transported was the wife of James Richardson, son of the Rev John Richardson and what was her crime?

Is this them in 1841 at Abbotshall?

Agnes Letch 28
William Letch 5
Marna Letch 3
James Richardson 37
Sophie Richardson 25

Regards,
Annette

Later.................from the info on another genealogy site and a newspaper report I see that Sophie Paxton/Richardson was convicted on May 1st 1850 so she'll not be found in 1851 at Scotland.

Hi John
Glad it was fine for you.
What I really think is my slowness problem, is not so much my laptop but the anti-virus programme is a bit too thorough. :(
I didn't put the children on my post I thought you would like that pleasure :D
