Windows Media Player

Post by maggiehill » Fri Jan 13, 2012 1:26 pm

I have transferred all my camcorder tapes with many years of family on to DVD-R's via a dvd recorder. But when I open them on my PC (Vista) which plays them with Windows Media Player on which there is no SAVE button so I cannot save the recording to my computer. Is there I program available which will allow me to transfer the DVD to my PC?

Also which is the best editing software to use?

You can copy them to the "Videos" folder from the DVD and then use the "Add to Library" function under "File".

Bob

I have tried that meethod but I had no luck, have tried a couple of methods as mentioned on a help forums but still no good. I am wondering if I can purchase a programme to do it.

HI Maggie

Is it not possible to double click on the DVD icon in the My Computer window to see all the files all on the DVD, then just select and drag them all to an appropriate folder on your HD or select them all and copy and paste to a folder?

Don't know which is the best editing software, but movie maker is worth a look - not a high end professional tool, but it was a standard inclusion in Windows XP, so it is free...not if it was there with Vista. If it is incuded in Vista, it will be there in your programs list.

(seems it was included with Vista. See: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=34 )

Best wishes

Lesley

Sorry for delay in replying but had computor problems to sort out luckly I had backed up every thing a week before. Have now managed to transfer most of my tapes to computor as you mentioned. I have transferred a few to DVD-R but can only play them on my computor not on the television. Each video is on computor as TS.BUP, TS.IFO and TS.VOB and gets recorded on discs in this format, trying to sort this out so I can watch the recordings on the television, without using the camcorder with all the leads.
