I've recently been in contact with some US relatives and they have some correspondence from the 1970s-1990s with "cousins" in Scotland. It is thought that one of them probably died in the late 1980s but the name given is "Aldra". I haven't yet seen the letters but being impatient have been searching SP for possible records.
I had thought Aldra may be a name for an Alexandra, but none of the appropriate death records seem to fit. Any suggestions for other name options (female names) for someone known as Aldra would be appreciated.

Re: Possible names
hi Trish
I've not come across that name, so no bright ideas here I'm afraid. As you have already probably considered, it could be a "nick name" not really based on the true name at all, or it could be something based on the true name, so really difficult to know at this stage what the name may be listed under...
Success in locatign the event may depend on how frequently occuring the surname is, but as it stands, the dates are too recent for TS, so we'd need to be careful with mentioning names and results if anyone finds any record that might fit. Here's hoping the letters you are waiting to see shed a bit more light on it for you.
Best wishes

Re: Possible names
Hi Trish,
Scotland's people have two births with forename of Aldra
I will pm them to you as the surnames may mean something to you.
There are also 3 marriages listed with Aldra as a female forename.
I only had one credit left.

Re: Possible names
Hi Maureen
I'm not sure why you couldn't send me a pm. I had searched SP & thought I found nothing with the name Aldra - so thank you for looking.
I just checked, the births are post 1950 & my lady was much younger than this so perhaps I didn't search that late - the marriages are post 1980 so similar. As Lesley says the dates are late, so I haven't given full names but in 1988 my Aldra was a grandmother so these would not be her - could however be descendants?? - it is interesting that the name does exist. I shouldn't have limited my search.
I'll send you a message
thanks
Trish

And here is me telling JustJean it must be my overloaded old computer that was throwing up the Fatal Flaw Flag, the other day. Alan SHARP.

Re: Possible names
Me neither, most frustrating.
As "Just Jean" had just been sending me a personal direct email, I flicked off the error message I was getting, and asked her to forward it to AndrewP for an opinion. Began to think Jean was jinxing me as I had a number of windows open doing research we had been working on. FreeCen is a heavy user on my dial-up.
Before going to bed, I tried just one more time, with every thing else turned off, and hoping that some how, I was not the one corrupting the system with my old equipment and bumbling ways.
