SEAFIELD HOUSE, ABERDEEN
We are trying to find out where we can get information on our relative Louis Harper (born 23 Apr. 1868 - St. NIcholas, Aberdeen (Aberdeenshire) died 26 Jan. 1940, Aberdeen) whose family lived at Seafield House. Parents names - John Harper & Margaraet Ross & married to Alice Isabella Edwards 25 Dec. 1895 - Aberdeen. I understand that there was an Ancestry Tree at Seafield House of the family that went back to the 16th century. We are wondering if anyone can help us find out where we can write to get more information regarding this family & Seafield House. Delores

Hello Delores, and Welcome to talking Scot.
There seems to be a fair bit of information about this family findable via Google. There are also quite a lot of 19th Century newspaper references, especially in the Aberdeen Journal, although many of these are likely to be related to employment matters and not of great interest.
Here are a couple found by Googling.

http://www.aagm.co.uk/thecollections/ob ... ld-House?l
I’m not sure of what specific information you are seeking or what information you have already found via research. Did you know that Scottish birth and other certificates, as well as census information from 1841 to 1911, is available from ScotlandsPeople?
Where did you see the information about the Family Tree at Seafield House? Do you know if the place still exists, I couldn’t find any sign of it. Old family papers may be still with the family, or possibly lodged with an archive somewhere.
All the best.
Alan

Re: SEAFIELD HOUSE, ABERDEEN
Alan's suggestion to search the census records seems like a sensible plan.
Although Louis and his family lived at Seafield Villa / House from 1871 onwards there was a different family there in 1861. Louis's father John was born at Turriff and looks like he may have moved to Seafield after he married.
Regards,
Annette

Re: SEAFIELD HOUSE, ABERDEEN
We are still working on John Harper, born May 21, 1933 in Turriff Scotland. The 1841 census shows estimated birth about 1833, the information we got today from the Seafield House site shows his birth date to be 1923 - 1906. This info & pictures was listed under the Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums & we are just concerned that the 10 yr birth difference is quite a lot. Wondered where they got the 1923 birth date. Also are trying to find info on his first wife - Elizabeth Wilson born Feb. 4, 1857 in Scotland - we are questioning this date also & cannot find any other information on her as we have a child born to them - John Harper Jr., 1856 in Glasgow - dates do not work. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Delores

Re: SEAFIELD HOUSE, ABERDEEN
We are the current owners of Seafield House (since 1983) and are undergoing some renovations. We have uncovered a couple of items relating to the Harper family including a couple of 1904 photographs of the family.
