Fanny Barclay (Urquhart).....

Post by douglas » Sun Sep 11, 2005 8:36 am

My ggg grandmother was Fanny Urquhart who married Charles Barclay.

She was born in 1796 in Alness.

In the 1871 Census, she lived in Renton, Dunbartonshire with her grandson Walter Campbell.

I cant find her in the 1881 Census and I cant find a death certificate.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

It may just be coincidence but there is the death of a Fanny URQUHART in Renton, - that's Cardross registration district, - in the decade after 1871, - shown as aged 88, giving an implied year of birth of 1790/91. She is shown as single, but the informant was a neighbour .......

David

I saw the death you are talking about. I discounted it as the father and mother were not correct. The surnames were correct (Urquhart and Boyd) but the first names were not (should have been Alexander and Girsel). I thought it may have been a relation.

In the OPR the only births to Urquhart/Boyd are for Fanny and her brothers/sisters. Interestingly she had a brother called Duncan and a sister called Jean (the names given as the mother and father on the death certificate). It could be a coincidence or it could be confusion.

Hi Douglas

It may never be possible to prove, but given a neighbour as the informant I wouldn't give long odds against this being the correct record.
