Hello KeithH,
It looks like James and Janet had a number of children. Have you tried to trace them all forward in time to find potential relatives? I'll post the 1861 census in the hopes that it will lead someone to this post via a search. Too bad they weren't more creative with their children's names! Jane, Janet and Jean all in one family
1861
Knockentiber Farm, Kilmaurs, Ayrshire
James Watson, 46, Head, born Irvine, Ayrshire, Grocer
Janet Watson, 41, Wife, born Kilmarnock, Ayrshire
James Watson, 22, Son, born Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Engineer
Isabella Watson, 19, Daughter, born Kilwinning, Ayrshire
Jane Watson, 16, Daughter, born Kilwinning, Ayrshire
Janet Watson, 13, Daughter, born Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scholar
Mary Watson, 11, Daughter, born Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scholar
Marion Watson, 9, Daughter, born Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scholar
John Watson, 5, Son, born Kilmaurs, Ayrshire
Jean Watson, 3, Daughter, born Kilmaurs, Ayrshire
All the best,
Sarah

Re: WATSON from Old Busbie, Kilmaurs, Ayrshire
Hi Keith, accidently came across talkingscot and saw your message on John Watson and Janet Dempter who are in my family tree.
John Watson's father James born Kettle in 1791 was a distant relative of my ggg grandfather George Watson, second or third cousins George's wife Isabella Hood/Hodge was a younger sister to James wife Agnes Auld Hodge.
2 of George and Isabella's sons came to Australia in the 1850s and 1860s who were Andrew and George Watson both lived in Ballarat
Andrew was my gg grandfather who married Jean Parker in Irvine, Ayrshire in 1847. Andrew was killed in a mine at Greta N.S.W. IN 1886 and Jean died in Ballarat in 1884 as Mrs Thomas Hughes, both had remarried in early 1860s. Jean's brother Archibald Parker also came out with Andrew and Jean and infant son Andrew Watson who was born in Kilwinning.
Some years ago found Thomas Watson son of James and Agnes also came out to Victoria
I have researched the lines back from Robert Watson 1763.
I am originally from Dimboola in the Wimmera and now live in Maryborough north of Ballarat.
You can contact me direct if you wish on robinparker81AThotmail.com
regards Robin Parker
