Robert Gardner

Hello Everyone,
Wonder if anyone can please figure out the parents of Robert Gardner born c.1793 Lanarkshire . He married Marion Henderson in 1815 Old Monklands.
Their first two children were named George, followed by Janet, John, George again and then Agnes. So George and Agnes would be the most likely name for his parents. John and Janet being his wifes parents names, which are spot on.

1841 Census New Dundyvan, Old Monklands.
Robert Gardner 45 Boatman Lanarkshire
Marion Henderson 40 Wife
Janet Gardner 20
John Gardner 20
George Gardner 15
Agnes Gardner 15
Janet Henderson 8
Two doors down from them is George Henderson, looks like Marions brother. He married Margaret Gardner in 1825 Old Monklands and had four children, John, George, Janet and Agnes. Exactly the same names as the above family, so appears as if Margaret was related to Robert in some way. George remarried in 1837 to Janet Mitchell who is in the 1841 census.
Margaret Gardners parents look to be George Gardiner and Agnes Thom in 1800. No sign of any Robert in the family though.

It looks like Robert died in 1856 - have you looked at his death entry for parents names?

Looked up SP on the deaths for 1856, there he is Robert Gardner, died in Old Monklands.
His mother is recorded as surname Thom, so that fits in with my guess. I'll get more info once i get back to Scotland. I had supposed he was dead before 1851, as i have had difficulty in finding him on that census. Must be doing something wrong.

If you search http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl for Robt Gardner born 1790 at Lanarkshire in 1851 you'll find him at the same place as 1841.

Stupid me, should have known better, was putting Robert into the search instead of the alternative Robt.
