Isabella(Black)Hutcheson Kirkcaldy

Post by bbilly » Wed Nov 14, 2012 8:32 pm

Hi, I have been tracing James/Helen (Robertson)Black from Kirkcaldy Fife, I know they had a son Richard Black born Abbotshall Kirkcaldy 1837, Richard married Georgina Rutherford, Townhill Dunfermline 1880 with James/Helen showing on marriage cert as parents,The 1851 census Cowan street Kirkcaldy has Robert Hutcheson wife Isabella, with their 3 children, Also living there is Helen Black mother in law age 59 with her 2 sons John age 24 Richard age 14 , This would make Isabella sister to John and Richard, What im trying to find out, Is this the same Richard that married in Townhill 1880, Any info would be much appriciated.

Hello and welcome to TS,

In my opinion the Isabella in 1851 is the sister of the Richard who married Georgina Rutherford.

Isabella died in 1886 at Kirkcaldy - have you looked at her death entry to see if her parents are Helen Robertson and James Black?

Looks like Richard had a few more siblings although there is no Isabella with them in 1841 - Might be worth a look at the original

High St, Abbotshall

John Brown 59
Isabella Brown 50
Isabella Brown 17
Robt Brown 15
Cathrine Brown 11
Alexs Maxton 60
Christian Maxton 45
Hellen Black 45
Elizh Black 26
Ann Black 20
John Black 16
Wm Black 14
Robt Black 7
Richd Black 4
Ann Black 3 Mo

Isabella Ramsay 3 Mo

Maybe just a coincidence but it looks as though Isabella's daughter Janet had an illegitimate daughter in 1866 and called her Helen Robertson Hutchison.

Regards,
Annette

Hi Annette, Thanks for your reply, Yes i have tried to find death cert for Isabella and also marriage cert but so far no luck, As you said im sure they are all of the same family, But really need some certs to tie them together, Only managed to find 1841/1851 census results which excludes Helens husband James but after checking Richards marriage cert James has Seaman as his profession which would explain his absence on census records,

Hi Annette, I found death cert for Isabella you were right 1886 Kirkcaldy , Shows James/ Nellie(Robertson)Black as parents, Again showing profession of James as a Seaman, And same address Cowan Street Kirkcaldy, There was a age difference 1851 census shows Isabella as 31, Death cert 1886 shows her as being 74, Something not right there , I also found marriage cert for Isabella,s daughter Janet this also confirmed Isabella,s maiden name as Black, I would now think that the info you sent me regarding 1841 census High street Abbotshall would appear to be the same Helen(Robertson)Black with all other members of her family,
Thanks again Billy

Hi Billy,

Glad it was Richard's sister.

Looking at later census records Ann Black appears to be Isabella's daughter to a Mr Dickson. Not sure at all about wee Isabella.

Regards,
Annette
