Charles McWilliam

Post by John Bird » Fri Nov 23, 2012 8:48 am

Hi,

I am trying to find the date of death of Charles McWilliam, born 1829 in Arberlour Banffshire, the son of John McWilliam and Isabel Wilson. He married Helen Robb in 1855. She died at Tillymorgan Cottages Culsamond 4/2/1900. Although, alive at time of wife's death & I cannot find him in 1901 census, he erected a Monument to Helen and his sons at Culsamond in 1904.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

regards

Hello John,
There is a Charles Mcwilliam who died in Culsamond in 1917. Either there is no recorded age or this was an infant who died shortly after birth. Have you checked that one?

This doesn't answer where he was in 1901, though. Had any of his children gone abroad? Perhaps he went to visit one of them after his wife's death.

There is a Charles Mcwilliam age 85 just a few miles away in Chapel of Garioch in 1911.

Someone of that name died in Chapel of Garioch in 1914 aged 95… The ages seem to be jumping around, but perhaps this is your man and no one was exactly sure how old he was. It seems more likely than the one aged 0 in Culsamond in 1917, unless an unrecorded age has been indexed as 0.

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah

Thanks for your information. I can now confirm that my Charles McWilliam was the one who died in 1924 at Chapel of Garioch.
