Richard Black 1837 Abottshall

Hi . I have been searching for marriage records for Richard Black born 1837 Abottshall Kirkcaldy . I have been told he married twice , Found one 1880 Dunfemline which would have made him 43 at that time, But cant find any record of a previous marriage, Any info would be greatly appriciated .

Did he die in Scotland? If so, his death certificate should give the names of both wives, assuming they were known to the person informing the registrar. If you can get the name of the other wife, that should narrow down the search for the marriage.

Like Andrew says his death entry should show if he was married more than once.

Looking at the census records though it doesn't look as though he married before Georgina. Was he a bachelor when they married?

I had a search for death record but cant find one, Marriage record 1880 to Georgina does show him as Bachelor but then again also shows his age as 38 which i know for a fact is untrue, I have 1841/51 census records confirming his birth year as 1837 which would have made him 43 when he married, Also been in contact with people researching his brother inlaw Robert Hutchison who married Isabella Black who also confirmed his birth year 1837 and seemed to think he was married twice but they are only thinking that because of his age when he married Georgina, Think i need to check out other areas for a death record for Richard as after a long search for Georgina's i finally found her place of death Airdrie Lanarkshire, Thanks again for your help much appriciated.

Hi bbilly,

You will know from Georgina's death certificate that she outlived Richard. His death can be found using a fairly wide age range and years between 1880 and Georgina's death year. He died in the same area that he was married.

There are some clues for you to go hunting with.
