John Cunningham nasty death

Post by LizzieS » Thu Jan 17, 2013 6:04 pm

Hi,
Back on the track of various Cunningham ancestors and came across the rather grizzly death of one John Walker Cunningham. His Death Registration states he died on 19th Dec 1907 on North British Railway at Craighead Colliery, Blantyre (usual residence 5 Cullen Street, Coatbridge). His death was caused by Compound Com.... Fracture of Skull from engine wheels passing over it. :!: Have looked for reports of this tragedy but so far found nothing.

Hello Lizzie,

After trying my hardest I regret to report that I have found absolutely nothing.

I did find some North British Railway accident reports in Parliamentary Papers but not one for him. There were all sorts of statistics there as well, and if I’ve totalled them correctly, it seems that on their lines, in the last quarter of 1907, there were six servants or contractors killed, but no passengers. In addition there were nine trespassers killed and one suicide.

Nothing found in the Scotsman.

You could have a look at the Glasgow Herald. I had a careful read through the 20th December and had a quick read of the 21st without finding anything. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=G ... de=2&hl=en

It hit 45 degrees Celsius here today, about 113 degrees F.

All the best,
Alan

Thanks for trying Alan. I have had a look through the Glasgow Herald for several days after his death but nothing seemed to be there. Its quite difficult with so much on a page and no facility for searching. I couldn't find a notice of his death or funeral which made me wonder if it was suicide so maybe he's the statistic you found.
Its not got above freezing here today. What a contrast :!:

Hi Lizzie
Swap you the weather!
I have information on a distant relative killed in a rail tunnel, he was taking a shortcut home.
So it is possible some of those unfortunates were just taking a shortcut home.

Hi,
I don't think I'd like that heat! Its very cold here but sun, blue skies and glittering whiteness!
Guess I'll never know what happened to John. It'll be another one of those mysteries lost in time.
