Another Ross Death

Post by LizzieS » Tue Feb 12, 2013 5:53 pm

Hi,

As you helped me solve the mystery of the death of Robert Ross perhaps you can find his sister Ann.

She was born 5th June 1862 at 41 Shuttle Street, Glasgow. Her parents were Robert Ross and Agnes Wilson.

I can find no further mention of her and she is not named in her fathers Will of 1904.

Sadly several of their other children died soon after birth and I have found the records of their deaths, so what happened to her?

Any thoughts?

Lizzie

Hi Lizzie,

I had a look for Ann, and found the family without her in the 1871 census. It is possible she was not with her parents that night (with grandparents?). All I found was other children to them, Janet Wilson Ross (1864-1864), and Agnes Ross (1867-1868). Their full details can be downloaded from ScotlandsPeople. The biggest possibility is that she died somewhere between her birth in June 1862 and the census in April 1871, but there is no sign of a record, unless it is badly misindexed. Or could the parents have been outside Scotland at the time (had they Irish connections?).

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew,

I thought I had responded to you sorry I must have just previewed then not submitted

Yes I had found the other 2 children and this is what puzzled me as I thought if they had registered the others surely they would have registered her death. I had surmised as you suggest that she must have died between her birth and the 1871 census but as you found could find no trace of a record. I doubt they would have been anywhere else as they ran a confectionery business. I guess some error has occured somewhere along the line. Thanks for your input anyway.
