Hi Cathy,

From The Scotsman, 11th October 1895, page 4.
Last article in column 7 (2nd last column).
  • SUICIDE IN GLASGOW

An iron-moulder named Walter Scott, aged 59 years, residing in Cornet Drive, Stevenston, Ayrshire, committed suicide yesterday in Glasgow by throwing himself from a window four storeys high, at 60 Cooper Street, the house of his son-in-law. He sustained frightful injuries, and died in the Royal Infirmary during the afternoon.
All the best,

AndrewP

Hi cathy52
Visit www.threetowners.com select Forum then select Family Research (Genealogy) and place an enquiry there for any further information. Stevenston is one of the "three towns" as they are known locally.

Although born and raised in Saltcoats, another of the "three towns", I have never heard of Cornet Drive. Perhaps there was a name change?

Hi Cathy and Jim,

I went back to the article in the Scotsman Archives. On magnifying it to almost fill the screen, the age is 59, not 58 as I said before. But the street is definitely given as Cornet Drive.

On looking at an online Ordnance Survey map from 1939, there is a street shown which I would say is almost certainly the one you are seeking: Carment Drive.

http://maps.nls.uk/os/25inch-2nd-and-la ... 2=82863087 (towards the SW corner of this map, just south of the railway station)

All the best,

AndrewP
