John Dunn b 1846 Midlothian

Post by babbie » Sat Oct 26, 2013 12:11 pm

John Dunn born in 1846 was the son of Thomas Dunn and Agnes Brodie --I have him until the 1861 census

were his occupation is given as grocers apprentice.

I have traced the rest of Thomas and Agnes's family some went to America while others stayed in the Midlothian area

Your help would be much appreciated .

Thanks

I think this could be him in 1871 at 18 Gardners Cres, Edinburgh.
Ancestry's transcription is poor but a look at the original at SP should be better.

John Dunn 25 born Edinburgh, Grear Spirit
Sarah Dunn 27 born Linlithgow, Grocers & wife
Agatha Dunn 10
Jane Handyside 17

I thought I had found him in Canada in 1901 but although that John Dunn gave his birth as 17th March 1846 he is an Irish shoemaker. :(

In Findmypast 1871 census,

John is indeed a Grocer, Agatha is aged 1 (not 10 as in ancestry), but address and everything else is the same.

regards
John

Thanks for that John - Agatha was easy to find on the IGI with your info. They also had a son Thomas in 1872 so I think there is a good chance it is the correct John Dunn.

Hi,
Thank you all for your help yes this definitely is the John Dunn I am looking for .He married Sarah Mickel in 1868 at Linlighgow
I have just found that they had two daughters both named Agatha who both died young .
I just can't find them with the son Thomas you mentioned in 1881 census.
In 1901 census Sarah is a visitor to a relatives home in West Lothian .

Any thing else you may suggest in my quest to find them is much appreciated.

Thanks again.
