George Rose Tevandale/Tavendale b. 1858/9 Aberdeen

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me find out when one of my ancestors was born.
His name was George Rose Tevandale/Tavendale who was born in St Nicholas, Aberdeen
circa 1858/9 ? to Alexander Tavendale & Margaret Hampton/Hanton. I can't find the exact
date of their marriage, only that it happened in July 1849 in Brechin, Angus.
I've been trying to find his birth on SP, without success, so I could confirm his parents marriage.

Can anyone help ?

Hello Daryl,

It looks like he was first named Alexander and the birth was registered that way in October of 1857. I found this on FamilySearch.org where the statutory births are indexed up until about 1875. It is a good way to search and narrow down which records you want to pay to download in full on ScotlandsPeople.

Thanks for finding that. I've already downloaded Alexander's birth cert but it doesn't give his parents marriage details unfortunately.

Would his birth be registered again under George Rose Tavendale? or is this his brother Alexander ?
I've already looked at their sisters Elizabeth's birth cert, but it fails to mention her parents marriage date.

I'm also having problems finding the birth of my 3 x great grandmother Margaret/Mary Tavendale neè Hampton George & Alexander's mother. She is supposed be born circa 1823 in Brechin to John Hampton & Mary/Margaret Bruce.

Unfortunately birth certificates from 1856 to 1860 don't give the marriage details.

Hi,

Familysearch has a Mary Hampton born in 1822 in Brechin to John Hampton and Margaret Macpherson. There is also a Margaret Hampton born in Brechin to the same couple in 1824. Is it possible the Bruce surname has been misinformed somewhere along the line?
