Can anyone help with finding Duncan McKenzie and wife please

Post by gbr37114 » Mon Jul 27, 2015 6:14 am

I would really appreciate any help in finding a baptism, parent names and siblings for Duncan McKenzie who was born circa 1790. Duncan McKenzie married Christian Macrae on 18 January 1815 at Glenshiel, Ross and Cromarty. Any help finding parents and baptism of Christian MacRae would also be very much appreciated.
Duncan and Christian's children were Alexander b. 1817; Margaret b. 1819; William b. 1821; Duncan b. 1823; Helen b. 1826; John William b. 1829; Christian b. 1831; Margaret b. 1834 all born at Kilmorak Inverness, then Rebecca b. 1835 and John b. 1839 both born in Inverness. :) Thanks everyone in advance

Have you found the family in the 1841 census?

If the parents lived until 1855 or after they should have a death certificate with parents' names.
Sometimes you could even find the grandparents living with the family [ or the grandchildren living with them] on a census record.
Although you are at the edges of feasibility with a 1790 birth date.
I did have a look on freecen but there were just too many possibilities [ esp. using baby John's as the subject]

Possible death in 1871 in Ross & Cromarty - although on 1871 the likely person for this death is living with a son Finlay - aged 39.

Could also try tracing Farquhar who is probably her brother. I can find him in 1861 - but not easily in SP deaths

I have been looking for that census for hours at Ancestry Trish - who knows why I couldn't find it.

Anyway this looks like the family at 7 Church Street, Inverness in 1871.

John W Mckenzie 40 b Kilmorack
Christina Mckenzie 75 b Kintail
Helen Mckenzie 42
Rebecca Mckenzie 28
John Mcrae 16

Annette

Is it your tree that is listed at Ancestry gbr37114?

I noticed at the IGI two of the first born children had the father's name indexed as Duncan McKenzie or Roy.

Name: Alexander Mckenzie
Gender: Male
Christening Date: 05 Sep 1817
Christening Place: KILMORACK,INVERNESS,SCOTLAND
Father's Name: Duncan Mckenzie Or Roy
Mother's Name: Christian Mcrae

Annette

I found them in ancestry - I think via Rebecca but without giving any county. Went to freecen because they have better transcriptions

Your 1871 is different to the one I found - sigh - and yours looks much better. Seems doubtful that Christina died in a county other than Inverness, but I can't find her there in the death index.

After a wee bit of playing hangman I found the death of a Chrisinta Mackenzie/Macrae of about the right age in 1879 at Inverness. Looks like it's been mis indexed. :D

Hello to Trish and Annette
Thank you both so much for all your hard work. I don't have a tree in Ancestry for this family sadly, something I need to do. I found all the births of children in Family Search. I have been searching on Scotland's People without a lot of luck because there are so many who have these names. It looks like from what you have both found on those census records 1841, 1851, (1861 I did find) and 1871 that you have the right family indeed. Now I can go and try to find out about the additional people that you picked up on those census'. The death of Chrisinta Mackenzie/Macrae was also a big find for me and I thank you so much for that Annette. I have now been able to get the certificate off Scotland's People. Hurray. Thank you all so so so much for all your help. Regards Gail
