Hi

I hope someone can help, I'm looking for Andrew Fraser born 1853 in Scotland, I've got a death record for him in 1925 in New York which I got from familysearch.org, it lists his parents as:

John Fraser
Jane McFarlane

but there's no record of his birth on the SP site to John and Jane.

He was married in Glasgow in 1876 to Isabella Barclay but that's as far as I can go, can anybody see something I can't

Hi Ali

Looking at the census records, there appear to be 2 possibilities for your Andrew Fraser

1861
Andrew Fraser aged 8 born Inverness parents John Fraser and Jane Fraser (both 48). Siblings Peter 18, Simon 15

Andrew Fraser aged 7 (fits with the birth date of 5 July 1853) born Bendochy Perthshire parents John Fraser 48 and Jean Fraser 47. Youngest sibling Catherine aged 5.

Family search gives a birth for
Catharine Soot Frazer, parents John Frazer and Jane McFarlane born 5 Mar 1856 Bendochy, Perthshire. (post civil registration)

It seems likely to me that the your Andrew belongs to the family from Perth. I don't see any baptism records for the family on familysearch

Edit - Looking at the baptisms 1853 in Bendochy on family search - there are 16. I'm wondering if many in the parish belonged to a dissenting church or if records have been lost?

Do you have his marriage certificate?

I can't seem to come up with one on Scotlands People
half a dozen Andrew Frasers marrying but no hits for an Isabella or Barclay.

That would help confirm his parents if you had it - and possibly other relatives as witnesses.

No worries Ali. I was contacted by a researcher some years ago - who thought we were related. Turned out he had gone down a wrong path & had much knowledge of my family - which was not his family. Helped my research immensely. Someone else will one day find this thread when searching for their family.
