I'm hoping someone with an Ancestry subscription might help me please.
I have a Jeanie Harper McKinlay born 12 Oct 1914 in Beath, Fife.
I know she was nurse and have various records of her travelling from S Africa to Southampton. The last one brings her back to the UK from N Rhodesia in 1957.
She died in Edinburgh in 2005 and her death gives the name of her husband, Rev Percy Clough. However I can find no trace of this marriage which would have occurred sometime after 1957.
Ancestry has the All UK and Ireland Nursing Registers 1898 - 1968 on which I can see one Jeanie Harper CLOUGH.
Would some very kind person look to see when this is dated so I can maybe trace her marriage?
Many thanks.
Best wishes,
Meg

Re: Jeanie Harper McKinlay
Oh thank you very much.
It just gives the date presumably?
I wonder why she travelled back in 1957 as McKinlay....
More questions than answers!
Very many thanks anyway.
Best wishes,
Meg

Hello Meg,
Daily Mail (London) , Monday, February 19, 1962
'Angel' to wed.
Scottish nursing sister Miss Jean McKinlay, 47, called “The Angel” by the islanders of Tristan da Cunha, whom she nursed up to the time of the eruption in October, is to marry the Rev. Percy Clough, a South African minister.
In July, 1962, Rev. Clough was in South Africa, perhaps they married there. https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid= ... 3797&hl=en
Tristan da Cunha evacuation, 1961. http://www.historytoday.com/richard-cav ... n-da-cunha
Daily Mail (London) , Saturday, November 4, 1961 (long article re evacuated islanders)
The islanders call their nurse, Nursing Sister Jean McKinlay. 47, "the Angel"—because she risked her life to rescue a patient in hospital when the island's volcano erupted.
Miss McKinlay. who comes from Edinburgh, wrapped 46-year- old Miss Mabel Glass in large sheets of polythene, and with two other islanders, carried her to safety as the ground heaved and lava poured down the mountainside.
Last night Miss Glass said: "I owe my life to the Angel." Said Miss McKinlay: “I just did my duty.”
If you want copies of those Meg send me a PM with a email address.
All the best,
Alan

Hi Meg,
The record the Elwyn has stated is presumably one of the 13 results that I see on an Ancestry search, with the following heading:

Re: Jeanie Harper McKinlay
The original question was simply when Jeanie’s qualification was dated, to help trace her marriage. So that’s why I just gave that information.
The whole register doesn’t give a whole lot more. The 1941 entry says her address was 6 Lochgelly Rd, Cowdenbeath and her qualification was “examination”. Most of the nurses listed there qualified that way but one or two older ones have things like “in practice Dec 1914” suggesting perhaps that they had never passed an exam but that they were exempt from the need to obtain one in 1941 due to length of service.
There is a separate registration for Jeanie for 27.10.1939 with her qualification being obtained at the Deaconess Hospital Edinburgh.
There are various requalifications every couple of years throughout the 1950s. Presumably the register was updated every couple of years and each nurse had to re-apply or their registration lapsed. The 1957 register has her address as 91 Comely Bank Ave, Edinburgh 4.
