I am trying to find information on James Semple born 1870 +/-10 years. Unfortunately there are a lot of James Semples. I have the death cert for his wife, Margaret (O'Donnell) Semple, and it states that she was a widow when she died so he had to have died before November 1926. He was a ploughman and I believe he was born in Scotland but lived in Manorcunningham Ireland. He had at least 3 children, Thomas P., Francis, and an unknown daughter. Any information on his birth, parents, marriage... anything... would be appreciated.

re the Semples
Hi do you know where she is buried?
Also try the Archives of the Clydebank/Renfrew Post which are avaiable at Clydebank Public Library. If you need anybody to have a look I can blac.. sorry ask one of my family to have a look. They have hatches, matches & dispatches. What was her husbands/her occupation?I am guessing Singers(sewing machines) or the yards(shipbuilding.)Again the wonderful archives have lots of info on these now defunct industries.
I am also a graveyard visitor -even my 5 year old nephew will ask"Have you checked the gravestones on that one" when passing a new cemetery.
My Father was born brought up in that part of Dalmuir & myself not too far away.
I had Semples in my class at school did the descendants stay in Dalmuir/Clydebank do you know?

Have you had a look for the family in the 1901 census on SP, or were they not living in Scotland at that time?

A family story puts James Semple as a land steward for a Lord Leitrim (not sure of the spelling) in ManorCunningham Ireland but that he was originally from Scotland. On Margarets death certificate his occupation was listed as ploughman. His son Thomas P. was born in Ireland but married in Scotland in 1914, wife Agnes McLauglin. Thomas and his family came to the US in 1923. Margaret O'Donnell Semple's parents were Edward O'Donnell and Margaret Martin, both deceased by 1914.
