Scoonie-Fife or Perthshire?.....
The 1861 census has revealed the birthplace of my GGgrandfather as Scoonie in Perthshire.I thought he was born Edinburgh but there you go...
Anyway the Scoonie I am googling seems to be in Fife. Are there two or is this part of reorgonisation?
Why do they this.My present Parlimentary Borough is possibily going to restructured which will mean we will have a MP dealing with three radically different Boroughs instead of the present one plus we get a Tory MP & I doubt that will change after reorginisation!!

Thanks for that
Thanks to you both for that.I thought that his wife was from Scone& they had been married there. The Census definetly says Perthshire & I thought Scone but it definetly looks like Scoonie which I had never heard of & as it is not that far from Dollar thought that was more likely & they had just been playing around with the districts.I am sure it also indexed as Perthshire(SCOONIE NOT SCONE) in the OPR but I will doublecheck that.
When I learn to upload images I will post it for opinions
Ann Graham his wife died just three weeks before the Census-talk about bad timing.

Scoonie- Perth or Fifeshire?
I think I have discovered the right place it is in fact Scoonieburn which is in Perthshire. So he was born in Perthshire but not Scone but Scoonieburn-the census definetly says Scoonie/Pertshire. but maybe the enumerator had RSI from all that writing
Its near to a HM prison would that be HMP- Perth does anybody know?

Re: Perth prisons
Hello Joette and Alison,
I am a little puzzled by the maps.
A contemporary map shows "HM Prison" to the north-east of Scoonieburn and what I know to be Perth prison is to the north of Scoonieburn, in the South Inch area of Perth, and also marked HM Prison. I have no idea what the first one is.
However, one of my wife's relations, Thomas Wilson, was governor of the County Prison, Perth, which was in Speygate in the centre of the city. He was governor there in the 1871 and 1881 censuses.
Do we have any locals to give a definitive answer?
Regards,
John
