Anderson Reid/Kennedy.....

Hiya Everyone

I have been researching my family tree and have been getting on great with my family name 'Shand'...yes I'm related to Jimmy Shand

...and managed to get back to the early 1700's with some details missing but I do have a direct line.
What I'm looking for now is details about my Gran and her family...my Gran was Euphemia Paton Reid born circa 1913/14 in Kirkcaldy,Fife...her father was Anderson Reid(died 1917 WW1) and her mother was Mary Kennedy...Anderson and Mary married in 1905(both living in Links Street,Kirkcaldy at the time). I understand that Mary left my Gran when she was very young along with whatever sisters/brothers with her sister and husband(surname Black).
Mary went on to marry again...my Gran never had contact with her after she left.
Any info or help no matter how vague would be very helpful ...Thanks

First things first:

Do you have a copy of Anderson and Mary's marriage certificate ?

That will give both their parent's names thier approx. ages and occupations.

That can be found on the Scotland's People website [ link at top of page].

Do you know just when Mary left the family? presumably after Anderson's death, You can search on the above web site for a remarriage up until 1929, and for a death before 1954.
For the death search you can narrow things down by using her approx birth year [ find that on her marriage cert] and any of the surnames she used [ if the person registering the death knew them all!]

She should also be found on the 1901 census there - perhaps along with parent's and siblings.

If however she went South of the border thats a different story altogether

Isabella- b. 1835 Banffshire
parents; William SHAND & Isabella MITCHELL
married Francis ROBB 1861
died 1922 in Glasgow
Her siblings William [1839], Margaret 1842], Robert [1850]

Hiya,
thank you ...gettin a bit further forward...
yes now have marriage entry...
Mary was 19 and Anderson was 22 in 1905,
her mother and father were Elizabeth Kennedy(nee Henderson) and Joseph Kennedy.
As for her later marriage I haven't yet searched but rumour was that she ended up in Australia but I can't confirm that yet.
But I have had a break through.... on genes reunited I have been contacted by a lady who says Mary Kennedy was her gran and she knows she was married to an Anderson Reid before her Grandad...wahey!
My 'Shands' all come from the fife area Auchterderran originally...can't find any that far north ...I do know there are alot of Shands in the NE of Scotland.

just a wee update on this....I have made loads of progress with Anderson Reid & Mary Kennedy...well mostly with Reid.And have been in touch with a distant relative...living in Kent.
I have a direct line now back to John Reid b.25/04/1814 and his wife Sophia Melville b.7/6/1819.(So far I've seven children to them)

There must be loads of Reids in Markinch!
I'm giving it all a rest for a while-need sleep

I notice you are looking into 'Henderson'
The start of this thread was about Anderson Reid & Mary Kennedy... the only concrete details I have of Mary is from marriage cert-her parents were Joseph Kennedy & Elizabeth Henderson ...will do some more looking tomorrow on scotlandspeople.

Never say never but I do think that my Henderson line and yours will never match up

My lot were in Glasgow and surrounds and before that County Down. One son failed to produce any heirs and poof there goes the surname

However....a parent search on the IGI for Joseph Kennedy and Elizabeth Henderson might have snared one. If it's the right couple. The IGI only includes Births through 1874 so this is right on the cut-off...which makes me think that perhaps they had more children which would include your Mary. What do you think?...Was she from Dundee on any census??

However.....a look at the 1881 Census you'd think would show Joseph Kennedy and wife Elizabeth with hopefully Agnes and more.....and I'm not finding them anywhere!!! There is another Joseph and wife Ann in Dundee but it's not them!!

Now where do you suppose they were hiding? I'll keep looking but................

I think that could well be the right couple,my Auntie is sure that Mary had an older sister Agnes and possibly an older brother and she says that Mary and her family were not originally from Kirkcaldy-so looking good!
At some point this week I'll hopefully get some time on Scotlandspeople - I will let you know what I come up with.

Have spent £18 on scotlands people and the only info I got was Agnes being born on 15/03/1874....can't find anything on Joseph/ Elizabeth/Agnes or Mary on any census

Going to leave it for now and concentrate on something else!
