Hello maggie

One description from a google search is....

Portioner - Owner of land, previously divided amongst co-heirs

Not that that explains a whole lot  ......but may be some help.

Best wishes
Jean

See http://www.scan.org.uk/researchrtools/glossary_p.htm .........

portioner
a proprietor who held only a small piece of land; heirs portioners were women who succeeded jointly to property

Hello Jean & David
