Can anyone please help with these Caithness names?
Benjamin Cormack - marriage to Isabella Campbell: 23 Feb 1832, Latheron;
info from his death cert: 21 Feb 1889 at Newlands of Clyth; Crofter/Fisherman, widower of Isabella Campbell; 89years; parents were Alexander Cormack and Janet Sutherland[both deceased]; informant was John Cormack his son and occupier of the address.
I cannot find Isabella's death on Scot People so I presume that she died before 1855. I know that he was a widower in 1871 living at Newlands- children still at home- Alexanderina, John and Joseph.
My searches to find Benjamin's birth and his siblings have not produced much joy as there seem to be so many births where the father was Alexander Cormack but no mother was named.
It seems that I have managed back to the late 18thC which is great but perhaps someone else is looking for the same family and can help.
Grateful for any snippets,
Rach

Hi Rach,
I've got loads of Dunnet ancestors and it would be worth visiting .Caithness.org and popping a message on their board, or even reading through it. Another site to try is Cursiter.com as this site has loads of Orkney & Caithness records.
By the way I have a Bookless,Buglass connection in Coldingham, Berwickshire.
Hope this helps a little.

I'm sure you have this but the IGI shows a christening of Benjamin Cormack, father Alexander, in Latheron, Caithness in June 1802.
This agrees with information given on the 1881 census for Benjamin.

Caraid and Nelmit thanks very much for your replies. I'll give Caithness and Cusiter sites a try. I did have the birth of Benjamin but no comfirmation as yet. Finding time to go into Reg House is the problem!

Caraid,
The Cusiter website is fantastic. I have only glanced at it but have already found some of Benjamin's children. Wish I had known about this ages ago. I don't think I'm going to get far with B's father as there are so many Alex., Cormacks!
Thanks again.

If any of them are buried in Clyth or Latheron Cemeteries, the Fred from the Caithness.org website is your best friend
This is his website.

Newlabeluk,
Thanks for the help. I have just posted on Caithness.org and Fred did give me the information. I didn't realise at first that it was his site.
Unfortunately I still haven't found Isabella's details as she and Benjamin do not seem to be there - at least their names are not on any stones.
