moving from Ireland.....

Hi,
I am looking for some advice on how to track an ancestor, William Davidson who was born in ireland in 1796 and first appears on the 1841 census, with wife and kids. He seems to be a causeway pavier who resided in cannongate. His parents are William Davidson and Joan Henderson. I think they were members of the Free Church as one of the children was married in one. Any tips on how to find more information.

There is an extracted baptism for a John Davidson born in 1826 to William Davidson (Causeway Pavier) and Joanne Henderson in the Cannongate area.

They had a son William also in the mid 1820's.

It is very unlikely (but not impossible) that William, the father, who married Joanna Henderson also had a Joan Henderson as a mother.

Both William and Joan/Joanne/Johan seem to have died before 1855, certainly before Dec 1859 when the son David married in Leith.

May be worth a look at the record for John Davidson in 1826 to see if there were any Godparents listed. Without a sibling for William the Causeway Pavier (one who lasted until after 1855) it may be impossible to confirm his parents.

You'll have to do a search on Scotland's People and order the extracts.

David Davidson married Janet Veitch in Dec 1859 but you'll find the certificate in 1860.
