Cordelia Innes.....

Post by Jack » Wed Dec 07, 2005 12:31 pm

Hi Lisa,
Thought a separate post might be best - saves confusion! You mentioned,

"...haven't looked at Cordelia Jr much as I'm leaning towards her maybe having died young..."

I may have got this wrong, but was it Cordelia INNES (b1838) you thought could've died young?
Her elder sis Janet INNES (b1834/1836) might have - she isn't with her parents in 1851.
I'd be most surprised if this isn't your Cordelia marrying Archibald LAMONT in Greenock 1865.

Here's the family in 1841 & 1851 (no census details as yet). [now added]
There's also a Daniel in 1851, but won't know if he's as a son till the original census page is looked at. [he is]

Hi Jack, I posted a thanks on the other message for transfering it since I seemed to have taken over that one  Not my intention.

Thank you for the 1841/51 details!!! May I ask where you were able to get them? I've tried the few sources I've found on line (freecen etc...but they all have only limited amounts of % transcribed) and as I mentioned to Andrew, was waiting for SP to have them up and going since I seemed to be having no luck.

Re my comment on Cordelia Jr - I was actually typing without my notes in front of me and should have put Janet's name not hers
So many Cordelia's of late it's starting to boggle my mind! Thank you for your effort on her though - I will check to see what I have on her marriage, though I'm sure I don't have the 1881 info on her possible family.

Thank you Andrew as well for that list, I have found most of the kids referenced there so far. Interesting little Daniel never made it on - Jack's post is the first I've seen of him but I'll try doing some digging on him. Agnes is my direct line, but Neil is the one who was around his mom at the time of her death. We'll have to see about the others.

Thanks again to you both! Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Census details now added. The basics i first gave were from census CD name indexes.
The 1841 Greenock does give most info, but a look at the original page is needed to see if there are any others with the family.
The 1851 Greenock is basically just a name & age - and likewise, you need to look at the original.

I do this at The Mitchell Library, Glasgow - but it's mainly West of Scotland (Old Strathclyde Area) records they hold.
Though they are adding many other areas on a fairly regular basis - cost is a factor; they have to buy them.

So the CD indexes have varying good points.
A few give birthplaces, some only have a *wildcard* search at the end - others anywhere in a name (the best!).
But i find them all most useful, even with the very occasional error - but even GROS themselves have those....

Jack
Edited to correct The 1851 Glasgow to The 1851 Greenock is etc.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that I've done some of the family for someone else. But it was Cordelia's brother, William's, lines.

Fairly sure this is him in 1881:

Got the certificate for Agnes

Post by Lahb » Fri Dec 09, 2005 11:44 pm

Hi everyone! Jack - thank you again for that information! I'm going to copy off Cordelia Jr's marriage info to confirm, but I'm sure you are quite right about them :D

Andy, thank you for your information on William, I'll have a look at his marriage certificate to also confirm. The last I left him was with his dad's death certificate - though it's very hard to read so I've just been guessing it's him until now. I might give uploading it a go sometime this weekend to see if others agree. Never done it before but I'm sure I'll figure it out :D There a lot's of Innes' but wouldn't that be neat if you had helped someone with my (indirect) line.

Regarding the original thread on this family- Ian had asked me to post back once I got the certificate for Agnes which came yesterday!! However maybe I'll start a new thread in the OPR area with her name to avoid confusion .

Thanks again to all who have taken an interest, you've been most helpful! Lisa
