I was told that Margaret Fraser had gone to America in the eary 1900's. Couldn't find her on the Ellis Island site.
Had a brainwave today

In the 1881 census she is shown as Mary (presumably wrongly transcribed from Marg. I have seen this before quite a few times)
So I looked for Mary and found her

She arrived in 1907.
More importantly I have also found her returning to America in 1912 fromScotland with her husband - Orchard Fraser and her son Orchard Fraser.
Orchard Senior was born in Alvie Inverness in 1882. Orchard Junior was born in America in 1910
The address they were returning to was 17 Loames St., Elizabeth, New Jersey.
What steps can I take now?

Hi Jean
What a gift a name like Orchard is

!!!
According to the US Census data they were in NJ in both 1920 and 1930. There were 3 children....Orchard, Jean, and another son, Allister. Complete details are on their way to you.
Oh...and according to the Social Security Death Index this looks like Orchard, Jr.
Name: Orchard A. Fraser
SSN: 152-10-4790
Born: 8 Nov 1909
Died: 5 Apr 1992
State (Year) SSN issued: New Jersey (Before 1951 )
Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean
It's time I had a break with the Frasers. The others are all the ususal names of Jane, Margaret, Mary etc and John, James, Alexander etc.
I thought I was never going to find the American connection. Strange to find it with a Fraser marrying a Fraser in America and they both came from Inverness.
It's great when you find an unusual name.
Now Wow

Thanks a lot
Jean

This find sent me scurrying for my mother in law's old address book........never throw anything away......
I knew there was an American address in it that I couldn't fit in with the family.
There it was -- Mrs Jean Krulish from Roselle N.J.
This must surely be Orchard and Margaret's daughter Jean, that JustJean found in the 1930 census for Roselle
It's an old address and Jean, if alive, would be 92 ish. Is it worth a try?

Hi All
An update for anyone who was reading this.
Jean Krulish did turn out to be Margaret and Orchard's daughter!
A "google" by JustJean found a Bill Krulish whose grandparents had lived in New Jersey.
He has a website and on it an address in Calafornia. Completely the wrong area but thought I would write to him with the information I had to see if he was possibly connected.
An e mail arrived last night. Margaret and Orchard were his great grandparents
He is letting me have his descendency from Margaret and Orchard when he gets over the shock

Hi Jean and anyone else reading this topic.
Bill Krulish has given me lots of information. His Aunt Jean, Jean Krulish's daughter is still alive and she has more to input. Further details to come.
