Wilson Bennet's of Chicago .....

Post by grannysrock » Sat Dec 10, 2005 10:24 am

George Bennet b 1856 Lauder , married Elizabeth Wilson ( b 1859 Greenlaw) in 1882 at Channelkirk. (I am related to both of them ).

An entry in my ggguncle's scrapbook refers to the Wilson Bennet's of Chicago - my assumption is that this is the family he's talking about - there are a couple of clues pointing this way.

I can't spot them in 1891 or 1901 in Scotland - if SKS has access to US Census , could they see if they do turn up in Chicago ?

Curious to hear if a little scrapbook mystery can be solved...

Hi Sally

Yup...they're there in 1900. There is no surviving US census for 1890 for this area. Full details on their way to you. I also did a very fast look in 1910,20, & 30 but don't see George or Elizabeth but also don't have time right now for a thorough look......but will check it out later tonight :D

Best wishes
Jean

Jean =D> =D> =D>

thankyou ever so much.
You've no idea how much the scrapbook item bugged me. I knew of the connection via the Pringles to the Bennets , George is my 4th cousin 3 times removed I think.

What I hadn't figured out till this morning was that he married my 1st cousin 3 times removed ... It all makes sense, when Elizabeth's father dies, his obit said that one of his daughters was "abroad" .

\:D/

The census entries are amazingly clear. The additional info in terms of birth month , added to the scrapbook items make it very clear that this is the same family. I note that the year of immigration is 1882 ( = marriage year) .

What can I do for you in return ?

A very grateful Sally
