Relatives in Paisley, Johnston and Elderslie??????.....

Post by Suzanne » Tue Dec 20, 2005 3:19 am

Would like to get in touch with relatives still left in Paisley, Johnston, Elderslie. Surnames include MCFARLANE, STRACHAN, ROY, WHITEHILL, LUKE, CUNNINGHAM, HAMILTON, FULTON. Great, great grandfather was John MCFARLANE who married Rosina MORELAND 10 Oct. 1973 in Paisley. His parents were John MCFARLANE and Janet WHITEHILL. John and Rosina's children included Agnes, John, James, Robert, Janet, Alex, Catherine and Wilson (my grandfather). Agnes married Mathew Strachan, Catherine married William FULTON. These two stayed in area of birth. Don't know what happened to Alex. All the rest immigrated to Canada....Would love to hear from relatives still in the "old country"! A hello and Merry Christmas from Canada!

Hullo Suzanne,

Have you thought of posting on Paisley on the Web Message Board? I believe that other TS members have found that helpful.

Earlier this year, I posted a message on UKVilliages and was suprised to hear back from a long distant relative, who happened to live only a short distance away from where my gg gf, Matthew Morning lived on McDowall Street, Johnstone, Renfrewshire in 1881. Needless to say I was tickled pick. xmas:redface:

And another suggestion would be to phone, so here's a site for a look up.

Some sites I couldn't get to....

Post by Suzanne » Wed Dec 21, 2005 2:55 pm

I couldn't get to all the sites...actually just one...the Paisley Message Board....I did post there though...I hope the Johnstone one is starting up and not closing down...I do realize the amount of volunteer work that must go into maintaining such a site....Or at least have an inkling of it....Thanks for all the tips....Much appreciated.. By the way, how's the weather over there....Us Canadians always talk about the weather....Although I feel that I'm just as much a Scot as a Canadian...I was just born over here....Yak, yak, yak! :)

Hi Suzanne, do the names Daniel HAMILTON c. 1813 and Matilda MCFARLANE c. 1811 mean anything to you. These are ancestors of mine both born in Ireland but living in Johnstone in 1840.
