"Tiny" Ross.....

Post by STUARTDALGLEISH » Tue Dec 20, 2005 11:17 pm

Dear all,

I was wondering if any of you have any information on my grandfather Dennison Ross? He played for Lingfield and Portadown during the 1930's and I have since been told by some old timers that he played played in goal for Clyde. He was born on 21st October 1910 and lived in Clydebank all his days. I assume during the late 20's and 30's he went to Ireland for the shipbuilding so could have played anytime between about 1926 and 1945. He was known "Tiny Ross". I've tried emailing Clyde 4 times this year and had no reply from them, even more dissapointing I tried the SFA also but fell on deaf ears also......

Santa's coming...... :D

Hullo Stuart

It is disappointing that you have had no answers to your e-mails.

Have you thought of posting your question on one of the Football Forums?

http://forum.football.co.uk/ for example.

It might be read by someone with a lot of knowledge of who played where and when in Football.

Best wishes
Catriona

Hi Catriona,

Thanks for your reply. I'm not that dissapointed so far as I've had a tremendous amount of help from here and the old SP over the years. I've left messages on the Linfield and Portadown message boards but I'll certainly try this one also and see what happens.

I hope you managed to find a few people in Paisley when you were over last year and the weather in Paris is a bit better than it is here today. One of the cats must have caught a mouse last night so I now have a frozen critter stuck on the deck.......

He may be there some time....bbrrrrrrrr

Cheers

Stuart

Yes, Stuart, I did have a profitable time in Paisley. Nancy and I had great fun wandering around, pinpointing the streets and buildings where my ancestors lived. We even got a free coffee at the Hayweighs. They had a photo up on the wall, taken at the time when my ancestor was the Innkeeper. Sadly it was too short a visit. There was so much more to find!

Blue skies and mild when I ventured out to do some shopping this afternoon!

All the best
Catriona

Well,

No replies from the SFA, Clyde FC, Linfield FC, Portadown FC or the Daily Record. Nobody wants to talk.......

Since discovered Linfield won't answer E-mail sent to them you have to do the old Pigeon Post so that went yesterday so hopefully something in a week or nine.....

Since found out he played at least one game in goal for Linfield against Glasgow Rangers in 1930 at the opening of the new stand at Windsor park Belfast. Score 0 - 0

The team

ROSS, BROWN, FRAME, McCLEENY, JONES, SLOAN, HOUSTON, DINNET, BAMBRICK, DOHERTY, McCAW

So who knows what's next.

:D

Cheers

Hi there Stuart -

Do you know where Dennison Ross stayed in Clydebank? and did he go back there after working at Portadown?

I ask because I come from Clydebank and my mother still lives there. She is now 87 and has lived there all her days. Although the footballing side will mean nothing to her, the name might - or to some of her friends. As I say - she is 87 so don't be too long coming back on this one

Cheers.

Hi Clydesdale,

Yes he came back to Clydebank and married a Margaret Parker in 1937. He then stayed there, a couple of addresses being 20 King Street and 18 South Elgin Street. Dennison died in a shipyard accident in 1966 and Margaret then "went about" with a guy called John Poole or Sonny Poole as he was better known. If your mother knows anything of Dennison or Margaret I'd really appreciate it.

Many Thanks

Stuart

Ps I know off the bad bits of this side of the family and the unfortunate situations so don't hesitate to tell me anything if you find anything

Hi Stuart,

I ran the name past my mother, but she is sorry it doesn't ring a bell. I did find a website for Clydebank with a discussion forum so it may well be worth putting a request in there.

Good luck!
