Wilson - Aberdeen - Brick Wall.....

Post by darrenst » Wed Dec 28, 2005 2:18 am

Hi folks.

I've hit one of my brick walls! ](*,)

I've failed to find a death certificate for my GG-mother Maria Thomson Wilson, latterly just known as Maria Thomson.

She was born illegitimately in 1877 in Turriff (Aberdeenshire) to James Thomson (woolmill worker) and Mary Wilson. She got married in 1907 at home in Aberdeen (12 Crooked Lane - not much left of it nowadays) to George Stephen, born 1867 in Hatton, Aberdeenshire. He died in 1936 at 12 Crooked Lane again, wife still alive at that point.

Thereafter I can find no trace. I have wasted lots of time at NRH, and money on SP. The vast majority of my family have not moved from Aberdeenshire / Banffshire, but I am beginning to wonder if she may have moved somewhere outwith Scotland.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Darren

Hi Darren,

Using the free search on SP, I find a Mary Ann Thomson or Wilson, died 1949, aged 69, in Aberdeen. Have you had a look at that one in your searches?

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Sorry Andrew.

I'm having a job getting SP to work tonight. I'm pretty sure I've looked at that entry and found that the parents do not match.

Cheers,

Darren

I've got it up now and it was one of the entries I saw at NRH a couple of years ago.

Not the same one, mine was married to a George Stephen. Wrong parents too.

Cheers,

Darren

Hello Darren,

I searched for Maria Thom*son/Ste*en* born 1877 + or - 1 year between 1936 and 1954 and got one hit in Aberdeen. Strangely enough it is also 1949.

Have you looked at this record?

Regards,
Annette M

Hello
Just a thought, there is a crooked lane in Turriff, off Balmelie Street with the Vets on the corner, don't know if there is a number 12. Or maybe its just one of those well used names.
