McIntyre's.....

Post by patjohn » Wed Jan 04, 2006 10:34 pm

I have traced my family back to a John McIntyre who was born ( according to his marriage record) in 1839 in Appin Argyle.
He was married twice. On one record he gives his parents as Hugh McIntyre and Sarah Cameron. I can find no record of this marriage. On the other marriage record he gives his parents as Hugh McIntyre and Euphemia McInnes( I think). I am lost. Can anyone help?

What evidence do you have that these two records relate to the same John McINTYRE?

McIntyre's

I found the marriage record of John McIntyre and Janet Dunlop from the birth record of their son. This was from working backwards from my father through marriage and birth records. On this marriage record 3/4/1898 it stated that he was aged 39 and was a widower. He was living in Neilston at that time and was a coachman. I found the death record of a Mary McIntyre in Neilston in 1877 who was married to a John McIntyre and then the marriage record of Mary McIntyre to John McIntyre in Argyll 9/12/1862. John McIntyre was a hostler at that time. The occupations match and the dates tally His father's occupation tallies in both cases. I realise that this is circumstantial evidence but I am awaiting the Census of 1851 and 1841 to come online so that I can check the area for either Hugh McIntyre and Sarah Cameron or Hugh McIntyre and Euphemia McInnes and their families. Any other suggestions would be a great help
Thanks

Hello patjohn

Can you help me out with a few more details? From your data I'm getting that John McIntire was married twice. First time you think in 1862 and the second time in 1898. But in 1898 you state that he was 39 and a widower? Wouldn't that make him something like 4 years old at his first marriage?? Or did I miss something??

Now another question.....on John's two MC's...did it state whether the named parents were living or dead at that time?

Best wishes
Jean

Agreed that your information so far is circumstantial, and that you need to wait for the '51' and '41 censuses.

You also need to track down the death register entry for John McINTYRE, possibly via that of Janet DUNLOP, to see if he has survived or predeceased her. Normally this is a quick task but the married female cross check search on SP isn't functioning at the moment.

Hello Justjean
His second marriage was 1878 not 1898
