I am definetly thinking of divorcing these blooming Waddell's.
Alexander Waddell marries Ann Graham ? 1843?Auchterarder/Scone.
She dies in 1861(before the Census!)On the 1861 Census is Alexander(W)-45-Scoonie Perth(?Scoonieburn or Scone?)
James-16-b-Aberuthven,Perth.
Alexander-13-"""
Thomas-11-Aberuthven
Margeret 7-Dollar
John-5-Dollar & William-3-Dollar.
John is my GGrandfather. His Father dies in Dollar 1867.A neighbour reports the Death so no accurate info re his Parentage. He then joins the Army as a boy Soldier.By 1881 he is living in New Kilpatrick as a Mason.
He is "boarding" with the Gibson household-Head John/Wife Jeannie born 1845 Auchterarder.
Now we have always been led to believe that this "Jeannie" was his elder sister Jean & that he worked for John Gibson. It is from there he is married in Eastwood in 1883.There is an IGI Birth for a Jean Waddell,Auchterarder which tallies with the age/birth-place of the Jeannie Gibson in the 1881 Census.
The problem is that I cant find any marriage info for a Jean Waddell/John Gibson combination or a Death for a Jean Waddell/gibson.
There are other Jeannies marrying a John Gibson in the right time frame but no Jeannie Waddell.
My Grandfather knew this Aunt & in fact I think his elder siblings were born in her house. She was definetly Jean Gibson so why no Marriage/Death on SP?
This makes frustrating sense to me can anybody else follow, help PLEASE?
Is she his sister?.....

The Jeannie in 1881 household appears to be Jean Somerville.
I looked for the twins birth on the IGI.

Yes that's what I would have guessed from my Marriage searches & the birthplaces of the older children.I guess they married in his hometown/county rather than her's
These Waddell's keep throwing up conundrums.John was living with his sister who we took to be Jean Gibson & working for her husband who died fairly young after setting up what went on to be a nation wide known building firm with a partner.
My Ggrandfather helped to support her as she was not left very well off & with a large family. He married in 1883 so between 1881 & then he left the Gibson's moved in with his sister/husband she also Jean born Auchterarder 1845 husband mason/builder.There was definetly an Aunt married to a Gibson but maybe not Jean so now name unknown & lots of marriages to trawl through.Oh well good excuse to visit my wee sister & have a wee sidetrip to NRH.

Hi have just discovered that Jean/Jeannie/Jane's Mother was Jane graham.John Waddell's mother was Ann Graham & as Auchterarder is where they were both born..... Can't access Jean Gibson's Marriage which is supposed to have happened in 1873(the Husband was a year out & it was 1872) .So she may turn out to be a cousin rather than his sister. Some more hunting required. She lived to be 82 so my Grandfather would have known her.
These ancestors are most frustrating. One child is born 1853/54 just before Stat Reg.& my Great-Grandfather 1856 & another 1859 so no Reg details of the marriage date,no definite proof of the other children & their sex.Ann dies just weeks before the 1861 Census & then Alexander's Death is reported by a neighbour with no details of his parents names....
The notebook that my Mother had written info from her Father in goes missing!!! You get the blooming picture.I am definetly disowning them before I go off my heid! Deep breath "Tommorrow is another day" to qoute my fav movie heroine.
