James Richardson/Agnes Clark.....
Can anyone let me have information regarding James Richardson of Scotland. I know he was married to Agnes Clark (b. 1793 Longforgan) and their children were Agnes (1826) and James (1829) of Dundee, but I have been unable to obtain any information about James the father. Regards, Lewella

Lewella,
There are too many James born around the correct time that could be your James. Do you know if he died after 1855? that way you would get a chance of finding his parents on his DC.
Incidentally there is a James Richardson married to an Agnes Longforgan 07 Feb 1823 in Dundee.

Have you looked for him, or Agnes Richardson on the 1861 census. That way you would narrow down your search.
If you have marriage certs for his children they would say whether he was still alive then if they married after 1855.

Hi Lewella
Have you looked on SP for Agnes' or James' marriages. That would pin down whether their father was still alive then? Sometimes you have to go forward to go back again!
I found that most girls married in their own parish around that time - unless they were in domestic service and had moved out of the parish. Dundee was affluent enough to have some moneyed families.so even if she was in service she could have stayed within the town.
Son James is more of a problem as he may have moved to another parish. At least Scottish records give parents names.
Sometimes you have to take inspired guesses to advance.
Pity he didn't have a distinctive fore name!
