Poor Image

Post by nelmit » Thu Jan 19, 2006 9:44 pm

Hi all,

Have my own thoughts but, suggestions for Thomas Braney's mother's maiden name please.
I know I can send a contact form but I need it for tomorrow as part of a birthday gift family tree.

Hi Annette,

It looks like Rosanna McKay to my unpracticed eye!

Cheers Fiona

Maiden name

Hello Lesley and Fiona,

Yes I thought McKay too. The only thing that bothers me is he doesn't seem to have attempted to put a tail on what would be the Y.

I wondered about McKan.

Anyway thanks a lot for input,
Annette M

Annette

FWIW I'm not convinced it's a "y" either. It doesn't seem to be formed in the same way as the "y" in Braney in the line above - if anything it looks more like the "n" in "General debility" on the next certificate.

Hi Annette
I have a sneaking suspicion that if you got a decent copy from SP the tail would be there - it would certainly be interesting to see if that was the case!

Some decenders are there - the 'p' of Hepatitis, the 'g' of registrar and even a 'y' for Thomas Braney, but if you look at his 'n' in Braney, twice he does a firm downstroke on those. The 'y' on County Down, to me, seems to be going in the same direction as the (admittedly perceived) y in McKay.

Please send the contact form anyway and put us all out of our misery!

Best wishes
Lesley

I have to agree with the others it looks like McKay to me, I think the tail on the "Y" is faded in the image.

But a better copy from SP would verify this. :D
