Is there a way to tackle an ancestor who on his DC has parents unknown!!

Marriage and Birth are not recorded on OPR

I suppose it depends on where and when he died.

I have found someone's parents by looking at an early census.
Poorhouse applications are another good source.

Are there any siblings? their DC may have parents names.

Information I have on DC
John McCready, Joiner Journeyman, Married Margaret Ferguson
Died January 1871 age 71 Old Monkland Eastern District
Both parents unknown, dceceased.
No siblings as far as I can tell
DC signed by Alexander, son, with his mark
