Brickwall in Jamaica .....

I am looking for the family of Maryann Young, born ~1827 in Kingston, Jamaica according to census records. As she died in England in the 1890s I do not have the names of parents on her death certificate. The Jamaican family history website has also produced a blank. Maryann got married in St Quivox, Ayrshire in 1848, and later moved to Kilmarnock with her husband, James Paterson. Any ideas?

Did Mary and James have any children in 1855? (the magic year!) If so you might be able to find out a bit more about her.

Ha! Looks like you may be in luck! :D Just found this on IGI:
  • Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record:
    ANNIE YOUNG PATERSON
    Birth: 27 APR 1855 Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland
    Father: JAMES SIMPSON PATERSON
    Mother: MARYANN YOUNG
I would suggest this might be worth following up on the Scotlands People web site where for a small fee you should be able to download this birth entry. The 1855 entires gave more information than any other year!

Hello and many thanks to you knowledgeable Scots out there! Good suggestions all round, except that I've already gathered all the information on all but one of the children, that's Catherine the eldest, born ca. 1850, no OPR available. The information on the birth certificate from 1855 only confirms that Maryann was born in Kingston, Jamaica, nothing else. Her OPR marriage doesn't yield any information, either, so what can I do to find out about her parentage?
