Closing in on Thomas Campbell?.....

Post by nelmit » Sat Feb 18, 2006 3:27 pm

I started a thread on Thomas Campbell born about 1845 in Hamilton a few weeks ago and I now know a little more about his life but still cannot find his death. :x nor any 1891 census details.

http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3051

I have found three of his sons, by his second wife Helen McKenzie who died in 1882, boarding in Nitshill, West Renfrewshire with a Frew family in the 1891 census. No sign of Thomas or his 3rd wife Helen who he married in 1885.

I discovered his 3rd wife Helen Thomson (previously Norman) married again to Daniel McLaren in Dunipace, Stirling in 1899.
So I now have a parameter of 1885 (when he married Helen Thomson) and 1899 (when she married Daniel McLaren) in which to look for his death but can I find it - can I what!!!!!!!.

Any ideas?

Hello Annette,

at first, I was bothered about the 1899 marriage in Stirling through Helen moving names and occupations around, but her 1927 death confirms the details.

I have looked at 6 Thomas Campbells of about the right age dying in all Scotland between 1885 and 1899, and all Campbells dying in Stirling county during that period, but nothing looked likely.

Similarly, I could not find the couple in 1891, and the boarding out of the sons suggests that the parents went away. Perhaps Thomas died on this excursion but where?

Regards,

John

Hello John,

Thanks, at least I know it's just not me. I had a good rummage at Park Circus last week where I found the the boys in 1891 and 3rd wife's death and re-marriage .

You gave me Duncan Campbell's marriage in 1901 to Catherine Adam.
By 'strange coincidence' two people with the surname Adam witness Helen's signature on the 1899 marriage.

Thanks again,
Kind regards,
Annette
