SP is freezing my computer

I have been trying to look at a birth certificate image all evening and every time I click on VIEW my computer freezes up. Is anyone else having a problem?

Hi Margaret,

Do you mean your computer freezes so that you have to reboot, or that the screen freezes?

I have had the view screen freeze before, and in those cases, I click "Finished viewing", then reclick view for the same certificate. This usually gets me in.

Ig your computer is freezing totally, you may be in need of a disk clean up.

Hi Margaret,

ScotlandsPeople seems to have this problem regularly withthe ActiveX viewer. See http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2593 for some of the previous comments.

The easiest way out seems to be changing the viewer used - either to Java viewer or the direct download method. These changes are made in your "my details" on ScotlandsPeople.

It was the Activex viewer. After I posted my first query I remembered this had happened before so I changed to Java and it opened up the image without any delay. Unfortunately it was not a long lost relative but someone who spelt their name wrong in the 1881 census. And there was me thinking I had seen all the possible spellings of McAnulty.

Hi Margaret,

Yes the ActiveX is doing everybody's head in......don't know when SP plan on fixing it. If you want to continue using ActiveX once you click on the credits to view the file and your computer freezes, click on another program, or open up another session of Internet explorer. By the time you do this click back to the SP site and you will see it has started to open the file, if not flick back to Internet explorer and then back again. Once you are back you'll probably see the start of the page you want to view, click on screen refresh and it will be there.........................this has been going on for months with lots of complaints but nothing seems to be getting done...

ActiveX problem - current possition and plan

Richard reported that Active X viewer was a concern at present. He had discussed matters with the developers of the Active X viewer but that the problem was ongoing. One solution was to remove the Active X option for new registrations until a resolution was identified.

Point 1 Is Richard talking by post to the developers as this has been going for months.
Point 2 Removing Active X from new registrations.....I'm not new I've been there spending money there for years
Point 3 How much is beng done to fix this problem rather than getting the other info online to make more money???

The contract that I work on has just secured another 3 years with incresed service levels

"XXX" SUPPORT AGREEMENT
As a result of the successful re-negotiation of the "AAA" support agreement the contract has been extended for a further 3 years, this covers "XXX", "YYY" and "ZZZ" etc.

There are however a number of changes in the SLA covering what we deliver to "AAA" and its Customers going forward, the main one as far as we are concerned being the 'fix' times, historically we have always been measured against fix criteria, but contractually we worked to a response criteria.

This has now been amended and with immediate effect the following is applicable;

Priority - 1 4 hour fix
Priority - 2 24 hour fix
Priority - 3 48 hour fix
Any other priority 48 hour fix

SAP has been developed to accommodate these changes and went 'live' as of Friday 17th February.

A stock holding of parts associated with typical PI calls [PSU,Ringers,Servers etc] was located within Glasgow City Centre to assist with meeting the SLA for "ZZZ". This is currently in the process of being set-up, the parts have been identified and allocated to a notional locator by Logistics, we have put forward a request to AAA / ZZZ regarding a suitable location and that looks likely to be the "-------" as it has 24 x 7 access, once this is agreed further details will be issued. .

As already indicated this 'new' SLA is already operational .

3-4 months and still no change..... or should we be fixing it because the customers are paying for a service.....

There are lots of IT guy's on this board and many have used all the excuses under the sun in there own companies but as we are now the customers we need to shout louder. I'm on Broadband so the freezing is not so much of a problem but Users who are on dial up are not only being frustrated with this but are also having to incur phone line costs as what would take a minute or so to see now takes ...well goodness knows..

Come on Richard, we the customers want some answers not just 3 or 4 lines hidden in the Minutes which most people probably don't read... If ActiveX is not going to be developed just tell us.

Hi David,

I couldn't give a monkeys if it's fixed as it doesn't affect me, just putting a point of view over on behalf of some who don't like speaking up or don't know why their computer freezes and spend possibly time and money trying to fix a problem that is not theirs. I just think it reflects a poor image of SP to what is generally a great site. Everything just seems so lax in the uptake i.e missed dates for new images, ActiveX problems etc drags on and on.

This is one of my pets hates....as my boss knows
