LOOKING FOR A DEATH CERT.....

HI, I AM LOOKING FOR A DEATH CERT FOR THOMAS COCKBURN HE DIED ON THE 12 OCTOBER 1852, HE WAS MARRIED TO ELSPETH KAY, HE HAD 8 KIDS. HE DIED IN LARGO FIFE. HIS MARRIAGE LINES TOLD ME NOTHING, FOUND A WILL NOTHING IN THAT,CANT FIND A BIRTH FOR HIM OR FIND OUT WHO HIS PARENTS WERE. THANKS KATIE

Hi Katie,

As civil registration did not start until 1855 in Scotland, there will be no death certificate for him.

The only possiblilty is a mention in the OPR for that parish, if it gives any deaths (not all do). OPR death information is largely unindexed so far, so is difficult to find. Even if you do find it, often all it will show is the cost paid for the hire of the parish mortcloth.

Sorry to not have any better news for you on this one.

There is a Fife "Death Index" that I have heard of, possibly published and sold by Fife Family History Society - click on the "Societies" tab at the top of this page to find Fife FHS.
